I've got a load of little terracotta plant saucers that are glazed on the inside to stop them wicking water. I add little cork adhesive pads underneath so they don't scratch window sills and you still get a bit of airflow under them. I buy them whenever I find them as they're so useful. In the greenhouse most of my saucers are made from old lids, the ends off carboard tubes and any useful looking things that will stand the sun. Have a look at saucers for bonsai pots as most of them are window sill shaped.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
I bought saucers to go under 35l pots last year and they were almost as dear as the plant pots ! why? there's only a fraction of the plastic in the saucer!!!!
What cacti are you growing? Was really into them as a kid. Ever since my parent's rather bland round cacti suddenly flowered after 15 years or more of nothing. A huge green and spiky outside to the bud then flower with a big red flower coming out of it with yellow stigma and Stamens IIRC. I got it's offspring and got one flower quicker than that but moved into my own house and lost interest? That was the last to die, about 10 years of no water to do it. I am ashamed of myself because I used to grow them from seed. Not easy and took patience too. I'm my defence I was getting into a lot of other stuff and still growing up. It's more about the fun at that stage of life than being practical and working on your home, garden and house plants.
I'm my youth I also killed 2 cast iron plants which supposedly are hard to kill? The third one I refused to let go. I pulled out all the completely brown leaves and was left with one half brown leaf. I watered and fed it and it came back strong. I passed it on to my parents after that.
Now I'm back into the green fingered hobbies. I'm not risking house plants yet but I do struggle going past the cacti displays without picking things up. Also there were some cacti seeds and lithops seeds in one of my local garden centres. I was with our son and I nearly got them. For our son to learn about growing things not my past cacti obsession coming back honest!!
BTW back in the day I always wanted to grow Opuntia outside in the UK. There are at least one species capable of surviving UK winters but you have to keep the roots drier than most plants. Not easy in the NW England.
Nothing very fancy Northernjoe.Β Just the usual round vicious ones :-)Β Most of them flower well and thrive on neglect which suits my growing style.Β Our local independant nursery has recently got some in which are big and dirt cheap so I may be getting more.Β Most seem to have been renamed since I last had some about 20 years ago so the names mean nothing yet.
Incensed about the stupid vegan girl who's enrolled for a uni degree in animal husbandry and is now complaining that she may get sent to an abbatoir as part of the course. What on earth was she thinking.
If I take the car in for a service I make a point to fill the washer fluid to the brim. They always charge for topping up the fluid so you know they're taking the p**s with other bits that were probably fine as well.
lol.. I'm with you on this one. one of the few times I paid to have my car serviced they charged me Β£2 to top up the windscreen washer bottle with a tiny sachet of fluid.
After that fiasco unless its a serious issue I cant deal with I do it all myself again. I got lazy as we have a Honda Jazz and to change the spark plugs on this model you have to take the wiper motor arms off and remove the body panel below to get at the coil packs and withdraw the plugs and I was working full time then with all the strees that goes with that.Β I'm retired now so have the time to take this stuff apart lol... no more paying for services for me.
If you can change the oil, oil filter, plugs, brake fluid air filter, brake discs and pads that's most of it covered. If its a serious mechanical fault and there's no option I'll go to a garage, but the main dealers her charge Β£100 + an hour and the independants Β£60 and hour so there my last resort.

Our garden centres have good stocks but they are only identified as cactus, small/medium/large. Occasionally marked as succulents. No species given. Annoying because these manage to make every other house plant and outdoor plant including unusual ones too. If they can't name them they shouldn't sell them because different species do have different needs. Like you need to keep them warm and watered at the right time of the year? Some have different times of the years for it.

Also, what is the university doing by agreeing that she won't have to attend!

To be fair to the place I got mine from, some of them were quite small and the name was on the cover for the pot.Β I put the cover under the saucer and one day noticed they had disappeared.Β My missus had decided it looked untidy so had removed them and thrown them away.Β I was not impressed.
If the silly vegan doesn't want to know about what happens to the baa lambs and the little piglets she'll be fattening for slaughter, she's training for the wrong job. She would be better learning how to look after quorns and tofus.Β
