Morning all. Welcome Planty Pru. I feel a lot more cheerful today after a better night's sleep but it's damp and overcastĀ so I'm having a coffee whilst waiting for sunshine.
OH has just squirted strawberry jam out of a delicious doughnut right down a clean shirt so that's for the wash. I rather think our washing machineĀ is on the blink, I don't think it's heatingĀ up so perhaps another big bill looming.. Hope our boiler doesn't go as well, both are the same age.
12 years old @PlantyPru .... virtually grown up thenĀ Ā and a dogĀ Ā what sort?Ā Ā
I buy bags labelled 'soil conditioner' from our local garden centre which is a Notcutts ... I suspect it may be local authority composted waste ... whatever it is it's certain giving the rather sandy 'free-draining loam' that was my veg patch, a bit of body ... we also useĀ home made garden compost and bought bags of manure but, having kept labradors and terriersĀ most of my life (not now) I quite understand your reluctance to use the latter š¤£Ā
She's practicing for her teenage years and has been for some time! We've got a black labrador plus 2 cats (1 who is nearly a year old) so they'd have lots of fun in it too. I'll have a look around and see what I can find. Have found some on Marshall's and then at least I can get delivery but we'll see. It's clay up there too and when we moved in we had conifers too, albeit a lot smaller than the neighbours so we took ours out and gained a few feet of garden :- Thanks everyone, I feel better when I look out of the window already!Ā
One Labrador now 11 or 12 yrs old and he doesn't know how to dig but we've seen him try and copy the terrier (14 in a couple of weeks) when she dives after moles.Ā More a case of bouncing on the earth with his front paws.Ā Ā Never seen either digging in veggie beds or flower beds or in newly spread manure.
Back from SM, nice and quiet in there today. Looked at the plants - I knew they would all be looking very poorly from two weeks ago, small Olives were completely dried out in pots and the Phormiums were nearly dead, why oh why do they have them in there. Interesting @Obelixx about the Astra Zeneca jab, I am well into the age group of receiving mine so lets hope. There was a French lady interviewed on the new yesterday in charge of a care home in France and said she had never had a vaccination in her life and didn't intend to start now because her body was strong enough to cope with everything!
Not digging in manured flower beds @Obelixx ... having grown up on a farm, I've known labradors who will eat the stuff ... or at the very least they'll roll in it.Ā Ā
Gardening in Central NorfolkĀ on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Not this one @Dovefromabove.Ā Rasta is the rolling specialist, especially the day after her shampoo and trim.Ā Finds all sorts of horrendously smelly stuff.

Afternoon all, Welcome to @PlantyPruĀ I was planning on gardening today but it's raining (not forecast)
Instead I have been to Merry Hell.Ā Had to pay a cheque in and it's our nearest branch and also needed quite a few things from Boots.Ā Not a pleasant experience at the best of times but even worse now.Ā It was positively desolate.Ā Hopefully wont have to go again until Ch******s
Afternoon all, Its a grey day down here in Kent today. the daffodils in my study are keeping me cheery as I work but I'm ever hopeful the sun will break through the clouds - its trying to!!
Pets and flower beds can be a nightmare, I am regularly on "poo-picking detail" around the borders as our lovely tortoise shell Pickle (by name and nature!) loves a dig around outside rather than using the litter box! They don't call them naught torties for nothing!!
Just waiting for my hot dogs to finish cooking for lunch and then stepping away from this screen for 30 minutes for a well earned rest!!Ā
Ordered the RHS year of gardening book that is due to arrive in the next couple of days so looking forward to the inspiration - I can already see me not moving from the conservatory over the weekend and falling down a garden planning hole. **MUST STAY AWAY FROM ONLINE ORDERING PLANTS**
Just going through my seed packets to try to plan a sowing regime, which will involve selecting windowsills that receive light and warmth but wonāt be disturbed by curious cats. I have loads of āfreeā packets from gardening magazines, mainly annuals, plus I bought some veg seeds - mainly suitable for pots and tubs.Ā
I hope all of you are doing ok - particularly those with injuries, pains, or worries.Ā
*was going to say āusualā or āregularā but that might not ring true either, myself included š
