Mmmm I never say no cake either This was my project the other day, that horrible 'fence' was here when we moved in and has driven me mad ever since yet we just can't afford new fencing so screening was the way to go. Feel better now it's done but it was a pig to do! The smaller section is my daughter's 'corner' where she plays with her friend over the fence, need to get some slabs put down there then that part is done then I need to finish digging the middle part up ready for some pretty plants. I'll get there with it, as they say 'Rome wasn't built in a day'!
That’s a definite improvement @PlantyPru 😊 and lovely to have a play corner there for your little one ... how old is she?
Looks like your neighbours’ conifer roots have exhausted that soil ... can you get hold of some bags of manure or soil conditioner to give if a bit of ‘body’ before planting?

Grey and chilly here too. Should be fine this afternoon so I'll do gardening then. Think I may go to the big garden centre 35 mins away. I would really like an Amalanchier and a Choisya "Aztec Pearl". Would be good if they had a Betula "Jacqumontii". I had thought about ordering one online but I've read some bad reviews.
I finished planting my 2 new beds yesterday.
There isn't boiler fired central heating here, but there are a few electric radiators and a very efficient wood burning stove. I roasted some chicken and potatoes in it yesterday. The oil bills at my last place were huge, but it was a huge house. When I was a child there was Jack Frost on the windows in winter, but I had a small fan heater to get dressed in front of and the kitchen was warm because there was an Aga. It was an old farmhouse. Now developers have developed it out of all recognition and built houses in the garden. Don't know how as it was listed.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
She's nearly 12 so spends a lot of time indoors looking at a screen so I have no issue with her wanting to be out on the garden with her friend it makes a nice change. The conifers are absolutely ginormous and whilst they give us some good privacy I do wish they weren't as big as they are. I'll have to look for some soil conditioner, I don't want to put manure in as my dog will be in there digging it all up! Is there anything in particular I should look for?
Hello Forkers. We've had rain overnight/early morning cos the moon was very bright on the small hours and it is cool but should clear and get to 15C later. I've just been having a Teams chat to make sure it works for when I and 2 other Brits go online to discuss British recipes with a bunch of 15yr olds next Tuesday.
Then I called my GP's surgery to ask about getting a jab and saying I was happy to have Astra Zeneca. Secretary/receptionist told me that the French govt may now say it's OK for the over 65s but the "Ordre des Médecins" has not yet pronounced! My request has been noted and I will be informed if and when I can have it from my GP.
As I am clean and presentable for my Teams meeting I shall do a bit of admin and sorting till lunchtime and then I can get changed and go and get mucky. It seems the chooks have had a happy time rearranging the chipped bark I laid on the fruit bed yesterday so I need to put on some more and then weeding and transplanting and planting to do along the ruin.
Bacon egg and baked beans for lunch - no butties. 7 eggs yesterday!
Good that you have had a long sleep @Hostafan1. Hope you don't pay for it tonight.
Have a good day everyone and stay warm.

12 years old @PlantyPru .... virtually grown up then and a dog what sort?
I buy bags labelled 'soil conditioner' from our local garden centre which is a Notcutts ... I suspect it may be local authority composted waste ... whatever it is it's certain giving the rather sandy 'free-draining loam' that was my veg patch, a bit of body ... we also use home made garden compost and bought bags of manure but, having kept labradors and terriers most of my life (not now) I quite understand your reluctance to use the latter 🤣

Bizarrely, I am just about to remove the same screening from a section of our border. It's just a tiny corner and it's got completely overgrown with ivy and holly and the screening is just a mess now. As our 'neighbours' don't even live there and yet keep that bit of garden very nicely mowed with some nice trees in it that are in blossom at the moment and it backs onto our outdoor eating area I thought we could enjoy the view for a bit. I think behind the screen is a wire mesh fence, I'll find out later.

Just watching the sparrows eat the leftovers from the bluetits on the terrace floor. They have got so brave in the last few weeks, coming right up to the house.

That looks heaps better, @PlantyPru.

Late on parade due to outrageous amount of sleep.
