We seem to stuck on war stories tonight😡. The Tarrant story of trains turns out to be about Germans and British and Chinese on the Somme. I’m ready for some music. Grrr.
Hello all. Just been making daughter's birthday cake, sponge filled with strawberries and cream.
@D0rdogne_Damsel, Gardeners World is nearly always on Fridays roughly 9pm English time, so 10pm French time then repeated usually early on Sunday mornings.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hot Cross buns were very tasty, and nice and light, but on the small size, just didn't rise as much as I expected, despite giving them longer than the recipe suggested. Also, I think I used too big a nozzle to pipe on the cross, I found it a bit too much, it's quite hard compared to the bready bit. I am doing another batch today, slightly different recipe, we'll see.
Thanks for the information regards GW. We don't have a recorder but I can access the BBCiPlayer with a VPN. 10pm is too late for me to watch tv, I seem to get so tired after gardening all day hat 10pm is about my bedtime.

I suggest you investigate getting a FreeSat box installed @D0rdogne_Damsel and then you won't miss anything. I rarely get to watch GW live on Fridays as t'other pair are definitely not interested and the Sunday am repeat is far too early. Beechgrove starts in April and is a gardening must, also repeated early on Beeb 2 on Sundays.
It is still perishing here so I'm about to give in, put on the heating and go and practice disappearing hourglass blocks but first a new zip in OH's fleece gardening jacket cos he keeps pinching mine which isn't broken.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Chilly but fine this morning. Kept myself warm in the back garden by clearing a couple of areas ready for replacing the back fence in the near future. I've ended up with the brown bin full of one neighbour's holly and ivy, and another neighbour's tree cuttings (dumped by the cowboys that did it behind his shed, up against my back fence).
Think I've stopped the leak form the waste water pipe from the washing machine. It had started to dribble from a corner joint which is on another neighbour's side of another fence. I'm hoping the rubber seal had just slipped out. I rammed it back in and it seemed to work for the next wash at least
I use a mouse with the laptop too as despite instructions from my GD's I can't right click , highlight or drag & drop with the tracking pad. We just stopped for a late lunch, after a couple of hours pottering in the garden, but it's got a lot more cloudy and colder now.
Feeling glum here ☹️ Chicklet has just left to go back to Bournemouth - she came home for Christmas 🎄 and never went back. But her work starts again in person from next week, so off she goes. It’s been lovely having her home, and the house now seems very quiet. She’ll be glad to have more than 4 outfits to choose from in the morning- she packed for a week’s stay, not 3 months 👗👚👖. She has been raiding her sister’s closets 😉.
Should really get out and get my hands dirty with something- need to lift my mood. Might go sow some basil 🌿

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
