Bit of snow again here, but only light so Im amusing myself planning for better weather.  Im looking at my underplanting and complimentary planting.  I absolutely love this combo for lady of shallot, so have ordered the yarrow and Nepeta to go with it.
A Fabulous Trio: Rose 'Lady of Shalott', Achillea & Nepeta (gardenia.net)

Ive done another secret garden club order and got some lovely coreopsis and nepeta.  I know the former are doable from seeds but these were quite unusual ones so I thought Id grab a few for some underplanting!

I used Empathy rose food on mine last year - it was noticeably different next flush of flowers! I took before and after comparisons with one of my red roses and it was super obvious.

I’m not that far ahead @Marlorena, I’m afraid you will have to wait a while longer! My record was two years ago when I had my first bloom on 29th March. Last year it was 2nd of April and that was in the poly. I have a feeling it will be later still this year since we’ve had such a cold start. Ouch, -9! My lowest has been -7.8 so far this year.

Phew -9! -4 for us here. Beautiful colour combo @JessicaS, I find Nepeta is always a winner. The Achillea brings out a lovely richness in the orange tones as well.

@JessicaS, that is lovely colour combination. I am going to enjoy photos of all your roses with underplanting.

I will post pictures of overplanted roses lol 😂

-8 predicted here. Let's see what happens to my star Jasmine and salvia amistad and couple of borderlines.

Thanks both, I just kept looking at that picture so figured Id have a go at it myself!  I promise lots of spam /pics :) Trying to practice a bit of underplanting this year - I usually just stuff things I like in everywhere!
Ive brought a lovely 3l geum Tequila Sunrise as well, reddish stems and peachy orange flowers, I thought that would look nice in the yellow roses bed:-

Chose these coreopsis as well to go with some of my roses.  Loved the colour splash. 'COREOPSIS Big Bang Redshift'

-6 predicted here tonight. Ive got the newly potted roses pots bubble wrapped and under some fleece just incase (although they will probably be fine) and the wisteria isnt starting to bud yet so that should be ok.  @newbie77 Salvia is a good point that can be tender cant it? Ive got some new ones in pots, I'll go put those in the poly greenhouse.  I have one in the border with mulch round it.  Ive been watching the temp sensors and they do keep them generally above 0 or not much lower in there.

Hi, does anyone have a valid David Austin discount? I understood that the code  SMTEN  was year long, but it doesn't seem to work. Any leads? Thanks

  • Back to being mild again on Monday, just in time for half term so I can get busy pruning and repotting some of my cuttings and new secret gardening club plants.

Need to be busy, keeps my mind off the thieving! Police called today - but only really to say that he can’t do anything until he’s spoken to the council. So I gave him their email - since they’ve got no active phone.

Thats it - I suppose at least I know “something’s” happening. I will return as often as I can this next week to try and catch the people I spoke to and get their numbers as witnesses.

Make my presence felt as well - so it’s obvious that we are there and he can’t help himself to the shed 😂
