..no idea, it's just showing out of stock at the moment.. maybe wait a while to see if it comes back as a potted rose this Spring..

..thanks for the youtube link @Bright star
.. I thought Mr Marriot had retired... interesting broadcast... Zimmerman's eyes are huge..

    .. @Nollie
.. re Mme A Mari... I have it in too narrow a spot, I keep meaning to move it.. it's best left to its own devices and allowed to just grow with simple deadheading... it deserves the best space you've got... I have to prune mine down and I hate doing it, the rose deserves better... it grows from a single trunk, which makes it top heavy and susceptible to windrock...   all the books and advice said it only grows to 3 feet or needs a warm wall... which is total rubbish ..

..no idea about the spraying, perhaps best to err on the side of caution.. I rarely see mildew here, strangely..

Ok, thanks Marlorena, I’ll put MAM in the better spot. No, mildew is not a thing here either, usually.

I tend to get a gut feeling about which roses will survive and which won’t @Omori - I proved myself right with Chateau de Cheverny and also Mutabilis, unfortunately, no sign of renewed growth at all, looks pretty dead. I really want to be proved wrong with Alexander though!

  • Thanks. There are so many beautiful roses, if it isn’t available. Maybe a few NGS visits will inspire another rose.

@Nollie You may as well spray if you’re worried about the others. I’m not sure what my Mutabilis is doing, there is still green cane at the base, but no signs of any growth. Maybe it’s in shock. Still crossing my fingers it pulls through 🤞

@Nollie I often see mildew on plants in the greenhouse that don't get it outside (a lot of my cuttings last year). Usually just putting the plants out is good enough to get rid of it.
  • I've been lucky in not having mildew on any roses but have had it on a honeysuckle and Jacob's Ladder....both binned eventually.

I have a question for all those with yellow roses.  My mother-in-law would like a yellow rose for outside their window in the residential home they live in.  It would have to be in a pot and good fragrance.  One she likes is Golden Celebration and I wondered if anyone has any experience with this one or maybe something else.

I have Julia Child but will be my first season so no idea how it will be.  My only other yellow is Graham Thomas who I have a love hate relationship with.

@poppyfield64 Have a look at Belle de Jour, new for me this year so can’t give personal input, but it’s won many awards, including for fragrance.

(Not advocating that site necessarily, just put it for the info).

Golden Celebration, while beautiful, ideally needs support so I don’t think it would be the best candidate.
  • Thanks @Omori that one looks lovely.  I have passed the information on.  She will be 90 soon and father-in-law 93 so I don't think they want anything too demanding, just something they can look at out of their window and go outside and smell when the weather is nice.

@poppyfield64, I really like The Poet's Wife yellow rose. Not sure how many years it can manage in pot though. Mine are young and small so far. Fragrance is lovely.
