@JessicaS ...yeah me too, I love the birds more but it wasn't that so much.. my Greyhound is territorial, and I have to be very careful about cats coming into the garden during the summer.. but I've noticed that he does allow them to escape, which is just as well, I couldn't cope with anything worse..
...absolutely disease free all year.. not known a hybrid tea like it.. the summer foliage is large and perfect... even now, as you see, frozen in its pot.. I repotted and pruned weeks ago, so it's quite small now, but it grows to 3 feet or more during the summer.. unperturbed by recent overnight temps.. but like everything else, it has one failing.. the blooms are sometimes spoiled by damp weather.. - we can't have everything..
@Omori Thank you, I'll take a look - I had a white one last year but it was a bit floppy - im growing a lovely pinky one from seed this year too.
@Marlorena Oh gosh yes I hear you - its a hound thing they really do have that chase instinct sometimes. Im not sure mine would know what to do if they got close (Im pretty sure my 12 year old would just want to play) but I would never risk letting them get anywhere near - luckily the sight of my lot just jumping at the windows is usually enough to send them fleeing! We have a 6ft fence and the edges are all surrounded by borders strongly fenced which helps just incase I do miss something - neighbours cat has happily taunted them up there before! We do get a hedgehog occasionally - I make sure to leave gaps for him to travel under fences - scent driven hounds always spot we have a visitor before I do however vigilant and go running over, but they just want to greet it thankfully until I can catch up and hustle them all away before someone ends up with a spikey nose!
I have 9 Salvia Mainacht plus 6 shorter lilac Agastache Beelicious Purple growing in my poly for underplanting, plus a load of other stuff. I have lots of gaps in the border to fill. I’m hoping the Mainacht survive this year, last lot I tried were rubbish mildewed plants that struggled! I am gradually cutting down the amount of Salvia Caradonna in the border as it’s not a great repeat flower and a perhaps a bit sombre. Here it is with Lady of Shallot, which, beyond a modest first flush, wasn’t happy in it’s south-facing, hot border. Now the Lady is in a pot awaiting a less exposed position, gawd knows where... I have been ‘persuaded’ (i.e. banned) by OH from shovel pruning it:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
..what a nice combination @Nollie ... with the Berberis.. ... dependent on keeping Lady of Shalott pruned short... I got rid of my Caradonnas, I thought I would like them, but found I didn't too much.. ..you're very good at putting plants together, I've noticed..
...I like that Scabious, @Omori .. not one I know.. and I see it's quite short in height..
.. @JessicaS ...your dogs are forever cute... funny about the hedgehog.. mine is quite wary of those, I don't think he quite knows what to make of them, not that we see many lately..
Warm weather on the horizon, hallelujah! Can finally finish the winter chores that have been put on hold. I hope my Mutabilis survived, it's not looking too hot at present.
..yes this should be my last cold night for a while.. I understand that next week is the week to prune gr. 3 clematis if we have any.. although I tend to do mine much earlier..
..just checking things over today.. everything shooting out, which is good to see..
