..yeah.. you just prune them off don't you?..  spent blooms like that wouldn't last long with me, even if I have to get the ladder out.... that's quite a beauty at Burton Agnes..

..glad you got the stain out.. all looking good..

@Nollie - my latest ask, I dropped the need for large clusters of small flowers because I just can't find "the one". So was asking just for best ones of any kind really.

Everyone, advice please. I have a few  options for placement in the ground. Trying to keep maximum ground space.

This is the area - Shoe for size reference. Impressive balancing skills 😉

I can remove the slab nearest the fence and just use that area to plant in - RED
    OR
I can remove the larger slab, shimmy the smaller one along, so I end up with an area the size of the large slab in the corner. BLUE
    Or
I could do the one above, but then put another slab going perpendicular in front of the planting zone. So there would be a rectangular hole with the longest edge next to the house wall. GREEN

This isn’t my house - but the shape of the front is very similar. The green area is where my rose will be growing. The blue would look lovely BUT due to the position of the garage section that sticks out, the only way to access that area for pruning, training, tying in etc. would be to climb onto the lower roof. Which I’m not comfortable with the thought of...wife certainly won’t be!!

    so green it is.

Marlorena . Have they upgraded Iceberg ?  I thought it had problems in the past , can't quite remember what the problem was now

..I'm hopeless with metres but just to add to what edhelka has said..

..don't worry about your less than full sun conditions.. just steer clear of hybrid tea roses, they really need the sunniest spots... floribundas and shrub roses will all flower reasonably well in your location during the main months May - August..  they all flower better in full sun, but we can't always give them that.. you may find less blooms in late summer due to the shorter days and lower light levels but it's not something that concerns me here..

..what I would recommend is that, for a coordinated look, stick to roses from the same breeder.. they all have their own breeding lines, and even in different forms, they have these connections which become visible and harmonise..
..this is not always what I and others might do, but some of us collect roses by the dozen..
..groups of 3 are good if you can go down that route... plant small roses with H and W up to 3.5 feet...  2 feet apart in a triangle formation.. you could probably get away with 3 groups of 3 each separated by a 3 foot gap or so...  or use 3 larger shrub roses about 4 feet apart,  with a climber at the back..

..I like to fill in with annuals in the first season.. I especially like pink, purple and white Busy Lizzies.. easy to buy, to plant and the winter kills them off... nothing to do.. and there's no rose on the planet that can compete with an Annual for flower power..  I weed out the reds and oranges - don't like them..

Oh yes I would. And if it was head height in my garden, no problemo. In fact I was going to get one for that corner where the green stain was! Because they had GT in those Corinne’s choice pots at my garden centre. But then suddenly stopped stocking those when I went to look.

But for this position if I could get a rose that just dropped its petals without a fuss, like GG. Then I could get the ladder out less often and have a better looking facade with less effort.

    Which appeals to me. 😊

I shall have a good look at the other options. I hadn’t thought of Mme Alfred Carriere although I know it.

..yeah.. the original climbing sport of 'Iceberg' was a poor repeater... sometime in the 1980's a better sport occurred that repeated bloom continuously... and this is the one they've been propagating from ever since..

Is it just me, or are the pages shorter now on the forum? Less posts per page. It seems to be moving on much quicker.

Id completely forgotten about this one!

Lady of the Lake. I remember someone here has it? I’d love to have bees buzzing.

    Is it you @Perki?
