@Lizzie27 - it’s not too late Lizzie. Just do this next week, or later even. Just want it doing ideally before they start growing properly.
Oh I have done a repair on my mini greenhouse as the plastic has aged it’s obviously become less flexible and the snow on top must have cause it to tear. Just taped up with duct tape and hopefully will last the rest of the year!
Lovely bunch of red roses from hubby this morning Ive brought black baccara this year, but heres my unnamed red last year - cheapie from a garden show, it was a bit blackspot prone but seems to have really perked up last year after some empathy rose feed and sulphur and put on its best display yet so I'll keep that up this year. Its wonderfully scented and very pretty. I blew all my amazon vouchers on an obelisk for Lady of Shallott and probably a purpley blue clematis (debating the president?) or another climber- gosh they are eyewateringly expensive but I felt her ladyship needed something decent! I am also nothing if not weak willed - Ive been after Koko Loko for ages and its sold out everywhere until next year... then You garden very randomly got some potted ones in and my finger slipped on the "buy" button.... Its bedfellow will probably be black baccara as that really seems to make the colour pop. A friend has gifted me Mocha Latte as well but they are different types so I think they'll make a nice pair between the two reds. I know they arent everyones taste but I love the unusual colour. This one has a very good reputation and is loved by florists.
@Cambridgerose12 Interesting, mine are all sprouting but its very cold here - gardens quite sheltered though I guess? A few on the thread have lady Emma and suggested its more scented - interesting on the disease, I hadnt read that but I have Austens Brother Cadfael which dosent list being low disease resistant and its dreadful for blackspot. I try not to spray chemicals either but I had to blast it last year to get on top of it before it spreads. Ive pruned the grotty bits, cleared underneath it again and will give it a good sulphur blast and feed again in spring to see if I can get a good handle on it this year before it starts. To its credit though, other than ugly blighted leaves, BS dosent stop it flowering away one jot!
I've just cut my 'Danaë' right back, it has just been in its position long enough to have built up a proper framework, so it should grow away again nicely with some rose food. It does get BS as well, but I forgive it that for flowering from April until December. I also pruned 'Susan Williams-Ellis', which I like very much, except that its flowers shatter very fast. I have tendrils of Clematis 'Royal Velours' draping themselves through it from the fence next to it, which is a lovely contrast. I don't have one of that mixture, but here's one of it with the flowers of (once-flowering) 'Morletii' above it.
Other than that I have two favourite old roses, 'Alain Blanchard' which I love, and 'Queen of Denmark'.
