@jennyfleur someone did put up a video couple of pages back. Its a good watch. Paul zimmerman with the US team of DA. The reason they mentioned for discontinuing the older varieties were challenges involved in keeping the stock and preferring disease resistance. However, you might be in luck if you are willing to wait for a bit as they might sell these varieties in limited quantities during summer or later as bare roots. Dont think you will find them in local nurseries. Can call up DA and ask them regarding the varieties you have in mind and they will tell you what/ when to expect. Or can leave a mail enquiry, that would take a few days but they will respond in detail.

Oops, sorry @jennyfleur, I forgot they were discontinuing Lady Em! DA sometimes drop perfectly good roses when they are out of patent as they make more money on their new roses, It’s a healthy rose for me, the only downside is the blooms go blotchy and stripy in high heat, but perhaps a more frequent defect for me in Spain than many in the UK. There are plenty of sources for discontinued DAs in Europe, it’s in stock at a favourite Dutch supplier for many of us (along with Munstead Wood, Harlow Carr and many others). Only worth the postage if you are buying several, though:

I agree Gertrude is not ideal except in a very large pot as she wants to climb - mine has bust out of it’s 60cm pot after 3 years. The climbing and shrub versions advertised are the exact same rose, it’s a matter of how you prune it, but even with hard pruning mine resists and shoots right back up again!

Have a look at Harkness roses too, @Omori has a few of theirs I think and might be able to recommend one suitable for a pot?

@jennyfleur It's fruity and usually strong for me.

Ah, Claire Marshall, I was trying to remember the name of that gorgeous, fragrant pink rose you had @Omori.

A few small buds showing here @Marlorena, but it was extremely gusty today, some foliage casualties, plus we are due -4c tonight, so all that tender new growth may get a bit frost nipped. I’m crossing my fingers 🤞

You  and me both @Marlorena, having got used to a smaller touchscreen one, the replacement laptop I have been sent is much ls larger and I'm back to using a cursor. The photos on here are coming out quite big as well.
I am pleased that I have fed and mulched my roses in the front garden today. Amazed at my daughter telling me she's counted 21 roses just in her new back garden. Should be fun to see what colours they are later. I'm hoping she'll turn into a gardener very soon.

@pitter-patter, which Berberis did you buy? I am very fond of a berberis (despite the sawfly!) and have four or five different ones.
