Amazing photos, @Busy-Lizzie. Not at all cold here today - currently 12C - but heavy rain is battering the windows in very strong winds.
Great news, @Dovefromabove. I can almost hear the sighs of relief from Forum members who are receiving their vaccinations, over the Irish sea...
Another 70 pages to go in the Niall Williams novel ("This is Happiness") chosen by the local library for the first Zoom book club meeting, taking place tomorrow morning. Good to have a book I might not have chosen myself... I'm enjoying it though. And it gives me a valid excuse to stay in today, for which I'm thankful!
Good luck with the greenhouse repair, @WonkyWomble - hope it's an appropriate activity for Valentine's Day...
Drive carefully, @Hostafan1. Congrats on getting your grass cut!
Stay warm and safe, everybody!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Freezing again this morning and doesn't yet feel like the promised warm-up is happening. No gales or rain or sleet tho so not all bad but definitely not a gardening day yet.
Thumb healing nicely now tho has changed shape a bit so, by the time it does warm up enough to get outside it should be OK. So much to do out there!
Possum her "pancake Tuesday" on Saturday Kitchen yesterday and asked what it was - we've never done it cos the Belgians do Chandeleur/Candlemas pancakes a couple of weeks earlier. I said it was the day before Ash Wednesday. No idea about that so I said it was the start of Lent and we were going back on the strict 5:2 with no chocolate treats. That was enough to distract her from pancakes. Sneaky ma.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Morning all, Wet and windy here so no gardening. I'm itching to get out there and sort out the new veg patch but I'll just have to wait.
Nothing planned today apart from getting laundry done, I know how to live it up.
Good news on the jab front @Dovefromabove the NHS are doing a sterling job sorting this out.
We don't really celebrate valentine's day. We usually pop to Ashwoods and Hubby buys me a new plant but we can't raise any enthusiasm for going out it's horrible out there, windy, wet and very dark we have the lamps on to try and cheer things up a bit.
Fabulous photos @Busy-Lizzie, I've never seen that effect before either. My poor hellebores in pots look a goner so I'm hoping the ones in the ground survive, they are usually hardy but it has been exceptionally cold here overnight. I also think my Carpenteria californica and Trachelosperum are looking so-so as is my Olive bush outside the front door - all too big now to wrap up.
We opened the choccies for elevenses and had a glass of fizz with lunch, on the grounds I could pace myself as I can't manage 3 glasses of wine in one go. The remaining fizz we're having with steak and chips tonight - going retro! Feel quite guilty as OH had actually remembered and got me a card whilst I hadn't bothered - oops!
Good news on the vaccine front @Dovefromabove - just knowing you've had it is a great relief, it's 2 weeks today since I had mine so another week and I should be protected with a bit of luck.
We saw a very strange sight the other day, a tree on the busy main road whose bare branches were festooned with icicles thrown up from an overloaded drain by the passing traffic. It looked as if it was decorated for Christmas.
@Lizzie27 I think I mentioned yesterday some of our Helibores are looking very droopy, but I am sure they will recover. I'm wondering if it's lack of water as the top 4 inches of soil is frozen, we will see when it thaws. Our 3 weeks was up yesterday for the vaccine, just hoping it's worked , no way to know unless we all get an antibody test. @WonkyWomble, I am very aware we are lucky here, we had far less snow, & ice than you or indeed many others. As gardeners I know we are all aware of the effects of the sun, but some days it still surprises me the huge difference it makes. In the sun on Friday Allotment gh was nearly 20C. Today is cloudy it was barely + 5 at 1pm
OH and I have just been out for a drive to check that Lola (the car) would be happy to start for my trip to the hospital tomorrow ... she started just fine despite the long lay up and chilly weather, so we went for just a few miles around the block and home. 👍 Think the last time we went anywhere was to the farm shop on 22/12.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Guess what I've just found! Just been out to refill bird feeders and had a quick walk round the garden as you do in cold ,windy drizzle and just this one lovely blue Algerian Iris.So pleased.

It's been a nice day and I've done some gardening. Put photos on the Garden Gallery.
