@rholden_82 , I would imagine they are all still quite small, so would just put them in one big pot covered with damp compost temporarily and store somewhere cool but frost free if you have it. They won't start growing just yet and will be okay for another week or so. If we do get some warmer weather, you could then pot them up individually and grow them on until it gets a lot warmer.

I was amazed yesterday @Busy-Lizzie when my daughter told me that she had ordered a new washing machine and dishwasher late Monday night and they had been delivered and installed yesterday. Very impressed with the service. We had used the same company during lockdown when our old tumble dryer had broken down and they were good then.

@rholden_82 I'd go with potting each one up individually if you can and keeping them sheltered from frost and heavy rain so they can grow on unchecked and become sturdy plants ready to plant out when soil and temperature conditions improve in a month or so. If the roots look a little dry, soak in cool water for an hour to rehydrate them before potting up.

@Busy-Lizzie hope the dishwasher gets plumbed in soon.  We have one in the pantry/scullery too but only cos the people who bought our Belgian house didn't want it.  Comes in very handy, especially if we have company and use our smarter wine glasses with the longer stems.

It is cold here, barely getting to a high of 1C but none of the threatened snow.   Skies heavy and dark and SM very quiet for our weekly raid.   Between the Covid behaviour reminders the tannoy reminded us it's Chinese New Year this weekend and promoted all the Chinese dim sum goodies they had on offer.  No spring onions tho and no fresh chillies so I'll have to go to another tomorrow to get those.

I'd forgotten it was Chinese New Year Obelixx. It will be interesting (if alarming) to see if the virus picks up again afterwards.

I suspect China will be a lot more circumspect about allowed travel and systematic health checks this year @Lizzie27.

Hi @floralies I have some spring onions seeds to sow this spring thanks.   I'd just have thought the SM would be smart enough to coordinate its offering to include Chinese recipe ingredients such as spring onions.  No worries.  I know where I can get some but have to decide which direction to head as they're both 20kms away in opposite directions.

  • Thank you all so much! I think I will pot them on and bung them under the sofa in the conservatory (Out the way of 2 nosey cats!) and see how they get on. Hadn't even thought about potting them on individually.

    Thank you!!

They'll need light so maybe not under the sofa and just keep out the cats?

  • Ah ok thank you! I will try and make sure they are in the light then - I feel a reconfiguration coming on - they shouldn't worry them too much I don't think, we can but try! It would be too cold to put them in a cold frame wouldn't it?
