My RTBC is that our pair of bullfinches have stopped pecking the apple buds to pieces, in favour of celebrating No-mow May. They're eating lots of dandelion seeds from the lawn - helpful and very cute, with the fluffy bits sticking out of their beaks.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
It occurs to me that in a normal year by this time, to avoid the biters, I'd be suffocating with the windows shut at night and slathering myself in asss before I could venture into the garden. It's not all bad.
Wandering around the garden between showers, the general consensus amongst the perennials seems to be: 'bggggr it, the weather isn't getting warmer any time soon, I might as well get on with it'. Many are slowly beginning to leaf up or flower.
