We only started getting Chinooks over here in the last year. We don't have any bases near us, our 2 closest airports, are Luton &Heathrow all rather odd. Grey and damp here again. @Dovefromabove, it's a tricky one with the car the best thing for the whole car & engine would be 15-20 min drive, with a few miles at a steady 50-60mph. This gets the whole thing warmed up,gets rid of damp and condensation in the car and more importantly inside the engine. Gets everything moving. Trouble is we not supposed to do unnecessary journeys. More justification than testing your eyesight methinks!
Morning all. Grey and miserable here. We once had the red arrows fly directly overhead in perfect V formation as we sat in the garden having lunch on my daughters birthday. I looked at my watch and said " Exactly 2pm, that's when they said they'd come over for you" Daughter was soooooooooooooo thrilled, bless'er.
We used to go to India for 3 months every winter and our cars / vans always started first time when we got home. They were ignored totally in our absence.
@Dovefromabove , I once had my van MOTd and I'd only done 920 miles in the previous year.
Yes @Allotment Boy I'm very tempted to order some compost from the GC next week, drive to pick it up and return home via the longer route which would involve ten minutes on the A47 ... I mean, if GCs are open because they are 'essential', is collecting compost 'an essential journey' ............... I don't like pushing the boundaries, but I use the compost to grow fresh veg so ... I wouldn't get out of the car ... I know that Notcutt's staff would put the compost straight into my boot so no risk to me from visiting them unless the car breaks down and needs me to call for help, and that's what I'm trying to avoid isn't it.

My rose order from Promesse de Fleurs has come. They were on end of season bare root offer. Some are rather small, some are OK and some are very lopsided. I'll plant them in the vegetable garden and may leave some to plant out next year as the beds aren't ready and they may be better grown on a bit. But I have a bed by the house for Lady Emma and Marie Curie.

OH rang his Norfolk surgery about his vaccination but they said that it is up to the vaccination centre to contact him and that they would ring or SMS him. He's worried he might miss it as he's stuck in France now. They haven't contacted him yet. I saw a French date chart, mine will be due April/May. People moan at the UK government for not acting quickly about Covid, but they are way ahead of the French from what I see in newspapers from both countries. I know English has been hit badly but it is more densely populated than France.
An English hairdresser is coming this afternoon to cut my hair at home. I hope she's OK. Found her on local English website, bit like "Nextdoor". My hair hasn't been properly cut since July, only by me - but I don't have suitable mirrors here.

I’ve not had a professional haircut since last January ... OH has been doing radical pruning armed with scissors and a razor-comb. As he’s the only one who’s going to see it, if he’s happy with how it looks that’s fine 🤣

Yes @Dovefromabove that trip for compost is exactly the kind of thing I am thinking of. In fact the car is less likely to breakdown because you have used it rather than the other way around. My Allotment is only 2 miles away, sometimes I go the long way round for the same reason as I said before.
12C here but sopping wet with persistent, heavy rain. Looks like my bug has passed now but definitely not venturing outdoors today!
I'd say compost for swing veg seeds was an essential journey @Dovefromabove. We've been going to the local store since the first lockdown - seeds, plugs, compost, netting..... and another for hen feed and straw. Always masked, always with hand sanitiser and always a one way system round the store.
The first of the Vendée Globe competitors is due back this evening and the mayor has had a real battle for people to be allowed to line the harbour entry and quays to greet them and welcome them home. They will all have to stand 4m apart!

We regard a 30 mile round trip as 'essential' to charge up the car once a fortnight, otherwise our car would only be used for rare 2 mile journeys into town. Our fairly new car has a stop/start system for which it is apparently essential never to let the battery go flat. If we get fined so be it. We regularly get Chinooks fly over, probably to and from Salisbury Plain where they carry out a lot of military training and often the emergency helicopters landing for the big local hospital on the next door cricket pitch. Play has often been stopped temporarily in the past! I didn't like the thatched house much either @Busy-Lizzie, particularly the kitchen.
Hairdresser has been. She was nice and seemed to be cutting very efficiently but it hasn't been so short for years! I wanted an inch off but what was on the floor was 2 - 3 inches. However, it looks a good cut and the back is good. I just look different. At least I won't need another cut for a few months!

Just seen that The Chelsea Flower Show will be postponed until Autumn. Not ideal if your displays are Summer blooms?? I wonder how that will work out. Looking forward to it though.
