I love the marking up its trunk but it has clearly had a hard life poor thing.

Amazon parcel arrived a day early, presents for grandchildren. The man hadn't received the instructions I gave so he rang me from the village, thank goodness I got to the phone in time. Phone is not ringing as long as it should and often won't take messages.

I've swept the leaves and weeded the swimming pool troughs. Sun has gone. Time for baked beans on toast and a cup of tea.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • No snow here in spite of forecast, but grey & wet again. It must be bad as I stayed in & made butternut squash soup for lunch. OH is busy trying to take up some curtains for her secondborn, one of those "mum could you just" favours that is not a simple as it sounds apparently. The curtains are lined so she is taking her time over it, this daughter rarely asks for anything so she is anxious to get it right for her.
    AB Still learning

  • Nothing settled here but there were a lot of big flakes for a couple of hours .  I suspect we're in for some frosty nights/icy roads over the weekend.

Evening all - I've been a bit awol. Sore eyes etc, so been giving 'the screen' a miss.
I haven't looked back at all the posts yet, so I'll just send love to anyone needing it, and a sprinkle of fairy dust.
If anyone is interested -the wee red squirrel from the recent news item was featured on last night's Landward, our countryside prog up here. I think it's on BBC1 tonight, and maybe on Sunday morning too. He's a wee soul, and doing well   :)
Our snow is all melting now, and at least the roads were better this morning once the temps got above zero. Yesterday they were lethal, as Wednesday night's snow froze, so there was skating rink conditions. The gritters had been out, but less traffic means it doesn't break up readily.

We had a sunny spell this afternoon which lasted for hours and left us feeling very chilly.  Clouds are back now and we've had another heavy shower and there's even been snow in parts of the Vendée tho nothing that will last.

Chooks enjoyed themselves in the sun tho and we have another 6 eggs today so I have some cream infusing with lemon peel to make Charter pudding - traditional Norfolk fare according to Jane Grigson and a favourite here.  It's like a lemony crème brulée but topped with caramelised apricots instead of burnt sugar.

@Fairygirl - I've taken to recording Landward.  Lovely programme but on a bit too early for me on a Sunday morning.

I wasn't sure if it was shown nationwide here @Obelixx, although I think the BBC1 version tonight is. It's a lovely programme, and mercifully free from the kind of over the top female presenters, who belong on children's telly, and who seem to inhabit other similar programmes.
And it has the lovely Dougie Vipond of course   ;)
The pud sounds nice. I love anything lemony.

I like the sound of that pud too @Obelixx, must look it up.

I finished cleaning the shelves in the cave this afternoon and got some more logs in. Then I wrote some more Christmas cards.
