My brother is home from hospital a week after the biopsy on his chest wall. He is very weak as he has had a chest infection and his lung function isn’t great anyway due to asthma and a pneumonia a few years ago.
He has a tumour in his colon and secondaries in his lymph and adrenal glands. A course of action is being planned. Think he has a tough time ahead of him.
Knowing that our family has a history of colo-rectal tumours, he has had regular private colonoscopies and quite a number of polyps removed ... looks like they’ve behaved like the Lernean Hydra 😒

Good morning, beautiful sunrise here, hopefully a nice day.
I am stuck at CdeG at the moment, waiting for a parcel, could be anytime between 8 and 6pm. I am doing a bit of paperwork but unfortunately can't get on with any Christmas baking as I have run out of sultanas - the epicerie where I normally get then from is closed on Mondays and now of course I am stuck here, I have tons of currants and raisins, mistakenly thought the same of sultanas. 'Normally' this particular delivery service come before 11am - lets hope so, in the meantime there are a couple of Cordylines that need tidying up, but I really wanted to get back to those brambles in the other garden. Fingers crossed. What a coincidence your OH doing the brambles @Obelixx . Sounds like you've got Possum in a better state of mind too, can't beat fresh airand a bit of motivation. I hope she continues to feel better.
Bonne fête to @Busy-Lizzie in France every day honours a particular Saint - today it is Saint Elizabeth, it's quite a big thing here.
If that parcel doesn't come this morning I think I might get some pastry made for mince pies - I have 150 ordered, I was going to do them fresh nearer the collection times but as the numbers have gone up I am realising that will put me under too much pressure, I am sure they will be fine frozen, need to do something, can't sit here twiddling my thumbs all day.
Catch up later, good day all.

Morning all/afties, evening @Pat E. Hope you're not doing too much At least your brother is home @Dovefromabove, as I don't expect being in a hospital is fun at any time, and more so now. I hope he feels better soon, and the treatment goes well. Hideous time for him and the whole family. Knowing what's wrong doesn't mean the process is any easier. x You're going to be busy @D0rdogne_Damsel. No change there eh? Frozen will be fine I'd have thought. Another wild night here and still not quite light. I doubt much will be done outdoors. That means housework. I wonder if I can find a project to do instead ....

Morning @Dovefromabove, our paths crossed. I am pleased to hear your brother is home, not so the results, planned treatment is a positive, but as you say tough times ahead. My very best wishes to him and the family, horrible.

Good morning Forkers. The sun is still very low and a watery yellow but there's blue stuff overhead so it should be fine later on. Maybe some weeding and tidying later then. Bit of a nip in the air when I went to let the hens out to forage. Very chatty girlies.
I never bother about raisins/sultanas in Xmas cake @D0rdogne_Damsel but Leclerc do both here. Haven't seen currants so I just make up a fruit weight with chopped dried apricots. Don't do glacé cherries either and replace them with cranberries. Works for us but I also do the Creole cake method where all the booze is soaked up for a week before baking. Saves all the messy unwrapping, feeding and rewrapping and no need to mature it for weeks.
I made Xmas puds on Sunday. First time for over 30 years! Not making my own mincemeat for mince pies tho.
I hope Bro is happier and more comfy at home @Dovefromabove. Sounds like a miserable process to come but wish home all the best.
@AuntyRach I expect in your case a step counter would just encourage more egg and chips! Not a meal I've ever had or lusted after but if it makes you feel good, why not?
@Fairygirl your weather forecast sounds horrid today so I hope you can stay warm and dry.
Hi and hugs to all those popping in but not feeling able to post cos of the blues.

We haven't done a cake this year - I don't think we did one last year either. I say we - daughter has been making them for a while, and she does a very good job. Too tempting for me, but I miss having one - part of the ritual. I love sultanas so always have more of those, and cranberries too, although less of the peel. We always had quite a traditional cake, and then had fun decorating it. I did a 'Snowman' one year, as in the animation. The girls loved that. The chooks sound like they're settling well now

Pleased your brother is home @Dovefromabove, sounds like he has got a lot to endure. Another night without sleep here, but weather is crap so not much I could do anyway.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Hi again everyone. Sorry that your brother has to go through the treatment Dove. Hope it all works out for him and that it’s not too awful for him. Hubby is on stronger meds now because the last ones didn’t go as the oncologist was hoping for. Fingers crossed for everyone with medical problems.
I managed to get some photos of wildflowers this afternoon. I’ll put some in the jigsaws. 😃
I hope your brother will feel better at home @Dovefromabove but with his colon tumour I expect he will be back in hospital. Do you know if it is operable? What a worry for your family
Skip hasn't been collected yet. I realised I hadn't checked the children's book situation. They have all taken their favourite books for their own children. I filled 8 carrier bags of tatty books with pages falling out, now in the skip. I have kept some for visiting grandchildren. With 4 children being given books by friends and relations for birthdays and Christmas over the years and some of my own childhood books it added up to a lot.
I shall try to have a more relaxed afternoon.

Hello all, I'm glad your brother is home @Dovefromabove so much more comfortable for him. @Yviestevie has your daughter had her results yet or did I miss that? A lovely sunny day but a bit of a chilly breeze here today. OH is widening a border round a seating area that gets very hot and dry in the summer, it is too narrow at the moment. I can then plant it next year with plants that like hot and dry conditions. I had a very strange dream last night that Monty Don was (helping) in the garden, I have not a clue why. He then proceeded to cut down a tree in the field next to us which isn't ours! I then invited him in for a drink, he said he would like juice I said I hadn't any would he like tea, he said yes and then when I had made it he went to his rucksack and produced a bottle of juice! How contrary was that! The dream ended there, so I don't know what that was all about.
