@Obelixx ... looks like the canna has a few more flower spikes on the way
We were going to split it this spring but lockdown out paid to getting a couple more large pots so it’s in a plastic dustbin that has a split in its side ... the bottom one third has big chunks of polystyrene to save compost and weight.

Morning all, tried a bit of veg patch weeding yesterday but couldn't see what I was doing because of sweat running into my eyes. Not helped by the longest hair I've had since the early 80s although it isn't the same colour any more. Last haircut was just a few days before lockdown started, must check if the barbers are open again.
We cooled down later at a BBQ in a friend's garden and a dip in his pool. Both water and air temp were 31C. It was still 23C at midnight! Lovely cool breeze at the moment but it will heat up again later. Got all the windows open to cool the house.
Gardening will consist of a quick trip to the courgette jungle for tonight's tea and to pick some french beans (purple dwarf and climbing varieties).
Nothing wrong with a split dustbin @Dovefromabove. I've grown potatoes in them.
Love that coral pink with the green foliage. I shall keep an eye out for cannas on offer at the end of the season so they can get a bit of TLC and winter in the polytunnel.
@steephill - close the curtains o the sunny side too to stop the sun heating the rooms.
We have some hazy cloud cover that's come in so it's feeling OK at the mo but I shan't be gardening now I've done all the pots and dead headed my dahlias. The soil is too dry for weeding/planting/sowing so a shady jobs and indoor day today. Things to paint, chair to cover, bag to make, patch homework before classes start again, mosaic ditto.......
Have you tried ginger tea @WonkyWomble? Supposed to help.

Morning all/afties @Pat E - great that you have that supply of damp stuff now. Cracking canna @Dovefromabove. I keep meaning to get another one, but I never quite get round to it. Hope you're a bit more like yourself today @Yviestevie. Sometimes those days are very difficult to cope with, but treat yourself - [more ice cream] and take it easy. The strawbs are almost ready for you, but I'll let you know shortly @Liriodendron - August is always considered autumn here. You can feel a change in the air during the first week or so, but we also get some of our better weather in the latter half and into September. June and July can be very mixed, cool and wet. Your thermometer could well have been right. We've had quite a few single fig overnight temps, although it just managed to stay in double figs last night. Cloudy to start off, but it's sunnier now. Nice breeze too. I do that with the front windows - curtains closed and windows open. We get the sun there later in the afternoon. I couldn't cope with the temps you all have. It reached 22 here, and that was too hot for me without any breeze.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Morning all - just I think over there. We sat out with out coffees on the shady side just now, there was a bit of a breeze, very humid and it started to rain which came to nothing and evaporated as quickly as it came. The ground is so hard and parched, I'm trying to shade the tomatoes but quite a few have sun scorch. the cucumbers and climbing beans are struggling even with the irrigation system. Sometimes I think I would love to live in Scotland but not sure I would survive the midges! I might attempt to watch recording of GW later without falling asleep.

No thanks @WonkyWomble, already had my share, still get them sometimes.
Wow @Dovefromabove , don't think I've ever seen so many flowers on a canna.
That must be a relief @Pat E I hope you don't have such a bad drought next summer.
Another hot day but storms may come this afternoon. Still at Daughter's, hope storms aren't when I'm driving home.
