I saw a woman last week @Lizzie27 - she was dressed for every eventuality. Coat, cotton hat with a brim, and sunglasses Been quite nice here as it's been cloudy and breezy most of the day, some sun, and a few hours of rain. Been raining since about 5pm. I got all the deadheading done, not that it takes very long, and sorted the stand of sweet peas that got battered by last week's weather. Very little else to do in my garden at this time of year unless I have a project on the go. Not done much apart from that, and a walk early on. Feet up now basically
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Hello folks, very hot and sticky here today. Haven't done much just potted up and planted a delivery from Beth Chatto that arrived this morning. Rest of the day was spent sitting in the shade reading. Grandchildren are all back this weekend. Stay cool and safe everyone.
@Hostafan1 ... is it a Hotpoint by any chance ... Mr Smith trained at the factory .., he seems very amenable .., perhaps he’d like a trip down to the west country ... 😉
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Just realized what the date is, crikey, my grandfather was born 120 years ago yesterday and my father was born 115 years ago today. Yes, that is correct, although a bit mind-boggling and no, I'm not that ancient!
Did a little light deadheading in my best lady of the manor take and then had a very civilised dinner on the terrace with a glass of very cold pink pinot. Completely forgot GW was on so only watched the last half hour. Mark Lane had an interesting collection of tools I thought.
I thought Mark Lane's section of GW was interesting too, @Lizzie27. His presenting has become much more relaxed of late. Btw, presumably your grandfather was not your father's father... or else he was extremely precocious!
It's been an ant-flying day here. Three large nests in different parts of the garden provided food for swooping swallows, as well as blackbirds, starlings and magpies on the ground. There were 5 magpies all pecking around together, one of which appeared to be anointing itself with ants... never seen that behaviour before.
Ants outside are ok. Ants invading our new extension are another matter... no idea why they came in, no food at that end of the house, but they started appearing a couple of days ago, round the radiator pipes and under the skirting boards. The internet suggested using baking powder to kill them. I'd much rather just stop them coming in, but I'm not sure how to do that - we've blocked up the holes round the pipes, but I'm not sure if it's advisable to seal between the skirting boards and the laminate flooring. There are male and female flying ants inside too, so I've tried baking powder where they seem to be coming in. Any other suggestions would be gratefully received...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
