I've just gone out there again ... it's really hot on the terrace ... I've put the big umbrella over a lot of the plants in containers on the terrace, and rigged up some shade over the plants in the little greenhouse .......... now I need some water ... it's 33.8C in the shade ... and rising ......Ā
Gardening in Central NorfolkĀ on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
They just brought the covers on at Old Trafford as it started raining. That wasn't in the forecast! Was planning on mowing two lawns today but might leave until tomorrow.
Afternoon all. Just back from shopping at Frozen food store (needed ice cream top-up!). Itās a lovely 26 here - too hot in the Sun but under the ābrolly is just fine. I will be reading a book: āThe Prison Doctor; Women Insideā - second book from Dr Amanda Brown who works at Bronzefield. I enjoyed the first book and, for an infrequent reader, I polished it off in a weekend. We have a set of medical-type drawers in work; one is set aside for a book swap club, one for tea/coffee/biscuits and one toiletries. It is supposed to be for our work paraphernalia like stethoscopes, masks, pen torches etc. but they are all squeezed into the bottom drawer. Must get the priorities right!Ā
Keep cool folks in the heat and stay safe everyone.Ā
I feel most disappointed - promised us 34 deg and loads of sunshine but it's only got up to a rather sticky 26 and overcast again.
Actually walked 2 miles to my beauticians this morning for exercise but got rained on just when I was nearly there - that wasn't in the forecast. You know it's a British summer when you go out with a straw hat and an umbrella! Absolute bliss once I was there though, had a manicure, pedicure and back massage - OH's birthday treat for me. Now sporting rather fetching silvery lilac nails. Gardening has been forbidden!
I went to a church planning meeting this morning at our treasurer's home, just over an hour drive away, gave 2 others a lift. Had to say I would be resigning. Stayed for lunch, 6 of us, I enjoyed it and the chat, not about church.
Came back to find both son's and families and 2 nieces here, toys, children (9) and books everywhere! Sons have been dismantling first OH's enormous train layout. I've sorted a cupboard and thrown a lot of stuff in the dustbin.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Front doorstep - still in shade but not for much longer - 35C.
Staying indoors in the cool with shutters down on the sunny sides and lots of windows open.Ā Ā It's OK as there's a bit of breeze.
