I've just had a text message telling me that somebody left me a voicemail on 27th July. I know our mobile phone reception is very poor here but that's ridiculous!
@Kili It's not that i'm particularly bothered about being anonymous it's just a habit i got into, clearing out history etc, when i shared a computer with the family. We all did it.Then i started to chat on a couple of forums where it got particularly nasty and my log-ins had been tampered with so my clearing out cookies etc carried on.
Now i'm just feeling totally at war with the amount of technology supposedly needed to get through life doing ordinary day to day things.Work has changed everything to being online, preferably through an app;rotas, holiday bookings, shift swap, you name it,all needing an app.Booking a slot at the bloody tip needs an app so you can identify yourself when you get there!! I don't even have a phone that 'does emojis'. I don't NEED a phone that allows me to be on every app available or to be constantly scrolling through social media (they got that description wrong didn't they!)I don't 'do' all this life online bit.Not anymore.I dip and out of here and that's about it.Sad? Maybe, but one of the first signs of the end of my marriage was being in the same room as my (then) husband and him texting me instead of talking.I'm sure as hell not going there again!
End of rant
Klink, sorry to say its going to get even worse with regard to technology and very soon you wont be able to do anything without a smart phone or computer.
My Local authority under the guise of the Pandemic are trying close all their public facing offices and force everyone to do everything online permanently. I had to go into the local Social Security office to show my birth certificate and had to ask the security guard on the door if he would pass it on as they wouldn't see anyone or let them in the building, you have to phone or email.
But believe me when I say if you can stay anonymous online you should try do do so. The worst thing you can do is open a Facebook or Twitter account as they track you, your friends and anyone you come into contact with through their products. But most people myself included just accept a certain amount of your life is tracked and there's little you can do about it but, I do limit access to my data as much as possible.
Sory to hear about the situation re texting and I hope life's treating you better now. Nothing like a good rant to make one feel a whole lot better

@Kili No Facebook,Twitter or anything like for me.I'm making a personal stand for a return to better communication (not sure about being on here )I don't need to know what people had for breakfast, unless it's home grown of course
Facebook seemed like those boasting inserts you'd get with Christmas cards - only all year round😕 interspersed with animals doing funny things. I don't bother with it now.
FB can be a useful tool if, like me, you have a daughter in her mid 20s who doesn't do email anymore and lives in another country, thus making phone calls prohibitive. I can chat or send her messages for free as often as I need and using a proper keyboard unlike the mobile phone which I find a real bind. I can also use it to communicate with groups in private to share info, photos, videos and that was very handy when I ran the dance club. I hardly ever post on my timeline or look at others - not interested in daily drivel.
Not on any other system and this and A4A are the only forums I use. My mobile phone is old technology and has no apps tho i'm told it could but for me it's strictly a phone for emergencies or whan out to meet up with a friend and one of us is late or lost.
OH does Whatsapp chats with his brother and sister once a week since lockdown started but his phone is smarter than mine.

@Obelixx My phone was old technology but my new one has taken a step backwards. I am now the proud owner of a doro phone. No emojis but i can subscribe to something or other that if i press the button on the back help will come.My husband suggested it was a 'better' phone for me because the screen is bigger than my last and as i only use it to text him it would be okay.Hmm.. i'm not convinced.Even for me it's rather too retro.
Never heard of a doro phone but never use emojis anyway. Only discovered recently that mine could tell the time. I'm retired and hardly ever wear a watch anymore so it's a useless function.
