Morning all, It's very windy here, have been out and staked some foxgloves I moved yesterday and shut up greenhouse and cold frame. I've left them open for over a week to harden everything off. A lot of my plants are potted up and have been for a while. I'm afraid they are going to have to take their chances. One good thing is that it's been dry so at least they wont be cold and wet. We're forecast temps between 2 and 4. over the next 3 days.
Not doing much today, but tonight we are have a bit of a celebration over the internet with family as it's our 45th wedding anniversary. We don't go in for big parties etc so the lockdown hasn't affected any plans we had. Stay safe everyone.
we’ve got the fleece and propagator lids at the ready for the next few nights too. New greenhouse hasn’t got power hooked up to it yet so the old fashioned method will have to do. No rain expected here, just cold stuff.
Back to the last bit of nettle clearing for me today. Then vigilance to make sure the problem doesn’t get out of hand again.
Radio 6 @Dovefromabove, always listen to the Radcliffe and Maconie show at the w/e's.
We’ll see if we can Listen Again ... we’ve got R3 on this morning.
I’ve just sown a few more runner beans. I sowed some last weekend but was mean and only sowed one per pot ... not quite enough germinated so I’ve sowed a few more. The first batch are in the studio now so there’s room on the windowsill propagator base. I don’t put a lid on for beans ... just warm the compost a few degrees.
I was very careful ... OH did the lifting and carrying etc.
He’s also spatchcocked a chicken for this evening ... I’ve slashed the skin and slathered it with a mix of yoghurt, garlic, saffron, ginger, cumin and turmeric.
We’ll roast it on a rack and eat with roasted squash, peppers and courgettes and rice. Tomorrow I’ll turn the remains into a ‘sort of biryani’ to eat with a spinach and squash curry OH wants to make. The carcass will then be simmered first a stock for a spiced roasted butternut and red pepper soup.

Morning all/afties Pat. Hope you've had a good day - or as good as possible x Congrats @Yviestevie and Mr Yvie. It's ok - Steve Wright's just played Macca's My Love. You could have sung along to your hubby Have a lovely day - and cake is compulsory. I've only skimmed back - glad your mum is ok. Wet overnight, and still windy, but thankfully much cooler. Bright though. Not sure if I've got much to do outdoors. Nothing that can't wait if the weather's unsuitable. @Allotment Boy's bench looks grey. You're right 'on trend' -as those numpties like to say
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
We are expecting a low of 3 on Monday night and 2 on Tuesday, so I'm going to have to remember which tea chest has the fleece stashed in it... courgettes in the blow-away won't appreciate the cold, I think.
Just used my Girl Guide skills to make a semi-permanent diverter for the shower water, using a hacksaw, some old guttering from the demolished garage, an offcut of damp proof material and some garden wire... it's been getting a bit tedious having to empty trugs and buckets stationed under the outflow pipe, currently sticking out through the bathroom wall. Drainage can't be finished properly until the insulators have put on the top coat of render...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
