English sparkling - local wine for local people :D Which one are you going to have?
We are lucky to be surrounded by some of the best fizz makers in the country here on the borders of West Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire - the English Champagne region. Have been doing fizzy Fridays on Zoom meetings with friends, had some lovely Chapel Down last time.

    I wouldn't dare wear flip flops @amberspy :D

@steephill - and it would cost twelvety hundred pounds... ;)
They do say it's very good though. As I don't partake, I can't really comment. I expect the hot summers over the last few years help too?

Roughly in the range of £20-40 a bottle so not cheap but much of it rivals anything Champagne produces. If this summer keeps on the way it is going it will be a superb vintage - look for it in the shops in 2023! The weather does have a big impact though with some years being a total write-off. I have vintages going back to 1992 mainly bought at lower prices than current. I have a Merlot vine in the garden which really needs a much hotter climate than here but even that has lots of bunches this year. Whether they will ripen is another matter though :/

Flip flops all day long here but I do put on an old pair of shoes for digging holes for planting.   31C expected today but that's OK.  I have a date with weeds in a bed that will be in shade by then and that pesky north easterly is still blowing so will keep me fresh.

Thanks @Busy-Lizzie and @Dovefromabove.  I ended up on google and have found a recipe for mint jelly using Grannies and there are orchards not far from here so they'll be local too.   We do like it with roast lamb and Possum treats it like a vegetable!

Enjoy your celebrations @chicky and the planning.  It'll be great having your OH around.   I fear air travel is going to be a problem for some time to come - availability, pricing, health security - so, when we do go ravelling again, we will stick to exploring places we can drive to.  Plenty to keep us going in France, Spain, Italy for now....

Hi @Liriodendron.  Have you got your renderers back yet?  Your name sake is doing very well in its new pot.  Probably won't get planted out now till autumn.  The weeds and grass in what will become the new shrubs and trees bed are waist high and the big strimmer is going to take at least 10 days to fix and then it all has to be cleared and ploughed.  OH is muttering.

Hope everyone is OK today.  Whitsun weekend here so we're going rust shopping this pm and then staying home away from the potential hordes at the coast or in the lanes if the holiday homers turn up.

Morning folks, Some good news ! Apparently as from Monday, we are now allowed to meet up to 6 people from one household in a garden or park as long as social distancing is observed.

I've just bought a toilet tent and porta-potty so we have our own arrangements if we need them en route - can't wait to see my son and grandchildren soon.

Congrats to Mr C. Retirement for men in particular takes a bit of time to get used to but my OH who retired earlier than planned has never regretted it.

    Morning all.
Sounds like an exciting time for @chicky is coming up

Glad your mint jelly apples are sorted @Obelixx. I use Granny Smiths for Bramleys when in France, they don't have the soft texture of Bramleys when cooked, but for something like mint jelly they are fine.

Think I said, we are going to Hyde Hall on Tuesday, RHS invitation. Usually they would have a mobility buggy for OH but, because of the virus, they are only offering wheelchairs. OH has ordered a light weight buggy which should arrive on Monday, if it doesn't come in time or isn't allowed into the garden we'll borrow a wheelchair. His hip is really bad now, he used to be such a walker. It's what we did on our dates when we first met. I wish the new date for his operation would come soon.

I cut my hair this morning, an inch off all round. OH stuck mirrors to the inside of my wardrobe doors so I can see the back. He says my hair looks fine.

I think the overwhelming majority of toes are too hideous to be seen in public.
