I recently broke off a couple of huge canes on Lady Emma Hamilton, that was painful...good news is she’s responding with tons of new growth so maybe it was a good thing 😆
I would post a photo to show you where I am thinking, @Tack, but, time to fess up - am enjoying a coastal break in the family holiday house at the moment, sitting on the terrace overlooking the pool and given it’s now 12pm, thinking about a glass of rose 🍷

Hi, when you have a variety of rose that can either be a shrub/bush or a climber are they different plants? For example one says grows 4 foot, the other 10 foot?
Thanks @Tack This one is Yellow Loosestrife (Lysimachia punctata). It can spread but I find it's easy to just pull out where I don't want it, and it fills in the gaps.
@rock_hen, there are some roses that have two distinct varieties, e.g. Iceberg has a climbing and a shrub version, but mostly it’s how you prune and train them. Many DA roses, amongst others, can either be trained as a climber or kept as a shrub if you prune assiduously but are the same rose. So it depends on the rose you have in mind...

@Omori thank you, I was thinking about Arthur Bell as an example. I had read that examples such as Gertrude Jekyll are the same variety but I just don't understand how the heights they give can be so different!
@Marlorena I think I'm in love with tottering by gently
@Nollie thank you. I have a brain full of ideas too but it's finding the time to put them into action. Currently planning to remove a 8' x 5' chicken coop (down to one chicken who has a smaller mobile coop). Hubby says he can build a pergola there which suits me fine.....more roses!!!
I hope you have a wonderful break away. It sounds idyllic.......meanwhile I'm working from home looking out at the garden and clock watching until I can get out there.
Also regarding the climber question by @rock_hen. If it's a shrub that can be trained to climb, do you forfeit any bushy foliage or should it not make any difference?
@Marlorena another beautiful shot of Aquarell. Does she have a good fragrance and repeat flower?
