I'm pleased my second-hand copy of Hilary Mantel's book was delivered early by Amazon today - he didn't wait for a signature and I gingerly took it from him, put it in the porch for quarantine and then washed my hands! Overkill or what, I felt rather silly doing it. At least I shall have something to read next week.
We bought two small bags of bread ready mix as a standby @Allotment Boy but it's getting hold of fresh milk when we need it that bothers me most
If a JCB factory can turn its hand to manufacturing ventilators and Louis Vuitton can switch from perfume production to hand sanitiser, then hopefully the supermarkets will find a way of employing extra delivery drivers - even if its just to make extensive use of the vehicles they already have. Lets hope. There might need to be a lot of lateral thinking/creative solutions marshalled pretty sharply .......but thats what we’re good at 👍🏻
@Obelixx- I easily use about 6 pints of milk a week, and I'm the only one who uses it in this house. Tea and porridge:) You have to laugh at the fag smokers eh? Daughter said there was the usual 'warmers' out today at the supermarche. They were giving staff grief about there being 'no chicken' this afternoon. It's a smallish supermarket, so they constantly have to restock anyway, so I'm sure they could do without self centred idiots behaving like spoilt weans. She said there was a queue outside Superdrug as well [it's next to the supermarket] no doubt waiting to raid the paracetamol. Don't these people realise that they're standing for ages, in a queue...in close proximity to lots of people....duh. People are stoopid:/
Can you get any help from relatives or a neighbour @Lizzie27? I find the restrictions/closure of care homes very sad. If visitors follow the same safety guidelines that staff are, they're surely no more of a risk than staff. How horribl for people who are in that position. They aren't doing that up here yet. I'm just glad Lily Pilly's husband wasn't put in that position last week. I got a bit of turf lifting done outdoors as it cleared up in the afternoon, but the rain's back on. The ground is so saturated, but I'm going to renovate all the grass anyway, so it doesn't really matter much. Very windy still.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
When Mum was stuck in hospital and I couldn't visit, I used to send her long, chatty letters with loads of photos in them. She was generally able to read them herself. With Dad, who was in a care home, the staff would read them to him. Cards, postcards, letters - I know it's not the same as a visit, but a letter - a proper one - is a reasonable substitute when needs must. And you can re-read it, and keep the cards on the shelf to look at. Just remember to sterilise them before you post them.

Evening all. Well, that was day and a half!! More people are trying to place orders than at Christmas time. Systems are on verge of crashing and orders are getting so big ( usual average was about 7 crates, now sometimes double that ) Head office don't seem to realise there is a physical limit to the number of crates which will fit in a van, hey ho. The shortcomings of our aged van fleet are coming to the fore. The van I drove this morning had 232,000 miles on the clock. They're knackered.( we've been saying so for ages. ) I got back to store this evening and there were 3 managers on the shop floor filling shelves ( unheard of to even have 1 manager overnight) I'm glad I'm not back in until next Sunday No loo roll in store since first thing yesterday and none due until tomorrow evenings delivery ( none coming in the morning delivery and none on this morning's) I have to say , customers were very understanding . They've seen it on tv and in the press.
Everything seems to be shutting down in Ireland now... granddaughters are delighted to be at home (older one is mildly autistic so happy not to be in company anyway). Church and choirs suspended. Elderly and vulnerable strongly encouraged to socially isolate. Suits me, as an introvert... hubby less so. He also objects to being called elderly, at 73... but it includes anyone over 60. I just find it hard to see myself as in an "at risk" group but there we are. There's a local voluntary group doing shopping etc for those in isolation but I'd feel a fraud using it at present; I'm doing shopping when required but just in the local shops, where there are no queues and no panic buying, and keeping the 2m distance from everyone.
Cross stitch is a great idea, @chicky. Is it a rose, on your previous project? Glad you're feeling a bit better.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
