Afternoon all. A day of emails and phone calls today - boring but necessary.

Have just spoken with the tree surgeons who were coming on Monday to prune the huge ash tree back from the power lines and to remove the copper beech tree. Big jobs involving much organisation. Electricity has to be cut to the whole road and we have to have the motorhome and cars off the driveway etc etc. Not easy when there's no parking close by.

Everything in place and all set to go but the imminent arrival of Dennis this weekend with continuing gusty winds on Monday means that UK Power can't guarantee to be on site to supervise the work (they've been very busy with emergency work since last week's storms and expect to be so again after this weekend) and the tree surgeons cannot work at height in gusty winds. So it's all off - bum!

Have just rearranged it all for mid-March so now I have to rearrange for the motorhome to stay somewhere for 2 days and the neighbours will be out of love with me again for the new power cut. Deep joy.

It's cold here too LB - the heating seems to have been on all day. Good you were able to get in with opticians same day.

We've just rung a company to get them to come out and quote for soffits and fascias. How about tomorrow morning? Okey dokey👍

Hi T'Bird. Well they should be able to console themselves that the power cuts are controlled - rather than having a stonking great tree branch fall across the power lines sometime in the future. Great that you got the soffits and fascia people to come and measure up so quickly. The couple across the road from me have been having their bungalow roof cleaned. Its gone from a slate grey colour to a sandy colour. I'll bet thats the first time its been cleaned since it was built. The chap was there all day carrying out the job.

Hmm - didn't know people had their roofs cleaned full stop.🤔

We have to do the render on the house every 2 or 3 years. It's cream coloured but gets a build up of green algae due to the proximity of so many trees. Then it just looks plain dirty.
Due again this summer. OH has been informed. Maybe he'll be able to do it when the scaffolding is up for the soffits - a bit easier than manhandling ladders round.

Think the neighbours were vaguely irritated by the power cut being cancelled. Apparently they'd literally just booked for a SKY Q installation and some other electrical work to be done when the UKPN guy handed them the notice saying the power would be off all day on the 17th. So they rescheduled everything for the 24th. Two days later I sent round an email saying the tree work had been cancelled and the power would be staying on (on the 17th)...

Fortunately they (sort of...) saw the funny side....

I'm signing out now people because I'm absolutely shattered. An early night is in order I think. Enjoy your evenings and I'll see you all tomorrow.

Morning Chive and Ruby. I am still having bouts of coughing which is a real pain as I want to get rid of it once and for all. I'm getting fed up with it now. One good point at least I'm not in China, if I had been I would probably have been in quarantine by now. I feel so sorry for the poor people on the cruise liner. I cannot imagine how horrendous it must be for those who have no window/porthole in their cabins. It must be like being in prison.

My birds are all very busy, staking claims to nesting boxes and acting very territorial. I've got one robin sitting inside a nesting box on the wall out my front window and obviously laying claim to it
Picture not brilliant as its been taken through my mucky front window (thank you persistent rain over the last few days) but you'll get the idea.
