Morning. Poor night’s sleep then a rude awakening at 6.45am by phone ringing. Of course I assumed the worse - but it was the log company telling me they were delivering logs in 15mins...
Padding around the drive opening gates in dressing gown & slippers at 7am in February is not the way to start the week...
Just spoken to OH - no o/night phone calls. Hoping no news is good news etc.
In the absence of any other info I’m planning to go into the office as I usually do on a Monday morning & we’ll take it from there.
Rosie - you seem to be up much of the night at the moment. Hope everything is ok?

Morning T'Bird. Its a good idea to fill your mind with your office work although I suspect every phone call will have you jumping. Thoughts are with you.

Morning LB - you snuckered in!

That pic of the Kings Bits (we could never quite remember if it was the arms or the head!) is very familiar. We used to live just under a mile south of there in Fulford. For the last 20 years I’ve watched the flood warning maps and every time it’s bad, the red area just skims our old front door.

The house is actually about 2’ higher than the neighbouring fields / meadows which form the flood plain down to the river so I don’t think it’s ever actually flooded. It’s probably got a bit too close for comfort more than once though!

Morning Chive. T'Bird, when the weather is good and the sun is shining, sitting outside that pub in the cobbled area, watching the people boating on the river is a memory I will always carry with me. A beautiful area. There are some elegant appartments on stilts on the opposite bank to the pub and I did wonder about their ground floor car parks! It would be a nightmare for me. Perhaps they all drive their cars to high areas when a flood is threatened.

Topbird I hope you get some positive feedback from the hospital today to make you less worried.  I hope mil is managing to sleep.   Very wild and windy today but the sun is bright.  Hope you are all okay from storm Dennis.

Again - thank you all for your kind words. The latest I have is that FIL was taken off the ward this afternoon to have his lung / chest drain repositioned. We still don't know if he will need surgery. OH said he was sitting up in bed but a bit confused. However, we suspect he may be quite heavily doped up - both for pain relief and as a sedative to stop him dislodging various drains etc.

The fact that he's made it through the first 24hrs in reasonable shape is a positive thing. He's had an ambulance, at least 2 chest X-Rays, lots of doctors visits and round the clock monitoring since yesterday afternoon. I LOVE the NHS💕!

Office this morning was good - only the 2 of us but I hadn't seen my friend for 5 weeks so it was good to catch up. Spent an hour or so this afternoon shifting and stacking logs. That's usually OH's job but he's otherwise engaged at the moment. Done half a large crate so far and my back knows all about it!

LB - I'm not too sure what they do about the bits that get flooded in York. They always get plenty of warning and the flood barriers do a good job of keeping water out of most of the city centre (makes it worse upstream of course!).

All the properties in your photo have the same sort of adaptations as the King's Bits - all electrics at head level, stone floors, lots of drains etc. More modern buildings in the streets that get flooded are all sort of built on stilts with no ground floor living accommodation. Garages tend to be under the flats and houses so I think most people would just move cars, bikes etc away from the flood areas. There's not too much in the way of car parks in town but there's lots of just-out-of-town / Park & Ride parking. Maybe they just stick the car there for a couple of nights and catch the bus back home. I would.

Crumbs - it's hailing & raining now - really hard. The rest of the logs will get wet - bum!

Hello all. Well it has been quite nice here today and I've had a message from my sis-in-law in Eskdale (she had to wait to get to the pub to get a signal though! ) saying that they have had a good walking day too. I am so pleased for them and hope it continues through the week.
I went to the GC today to get some alpine compost and whilst there I was strangely drawn to the sale area. I found a tiny little 9cm pot with what looked like a big lipstick kiss on the side - possibly produced for Valentine's Day. Contents of this wee pot resembled dead grass - about 2 inches (in old money) tall. Closer inspection showed a myriad of teeny tiny green shoots and the label read Dianthus Pink Kisses. I had to rescue it of course and for £1 I didn't think it was going to break the bank. I've repotted it into some fresh compost and we will see what happens. I've read up online about it and it seems like it is a good doer so I'm quietly chuffed  (Ante = pleased) I rescued it.
Having mentioned you Ante - how are you feeling today? Isn't it this week that your sister is visiting you?
