Good news about the FIL T'Bird. When we had my Mum's bathroom converted to a shower room we tried those stick on flowers for her shower tray. I wasn't impressed to be honest (though they were pretty!) and we went to a mobility specialists and got an antibacterial mat to replace them. It was a bit more expensive than an ordinary mat but we were happy to pay for it to keep Mum safe.

LB. My stickers have never failed , but we did have one of those mats and it lost its ability to stay put . We had to get rid of it . I guess it’s the luck of the draw . Some products will be sound others won’t . We got rid of our mat for the same reason that you got rid of your stickers . My OH much prefers the stickers .

Thanks girls - that's very useful.

MIL has a bath mat but FIL refuses to use it so we're trying to come up with something he can't really see and either won't need to put in each time he has a bath (every day - he prefers a bath to a shower) or which will be fiddly for him to remove (he's a stubborn old cuss!).

Are yours the dots or the flowers Rubee? Good info about the importance of thoroughly cleaning the bath. I think the use of acetone or alcohol is to remove every last trace of greasy products like hair conditioner / bath oil etc. so I'll need to emphasise that to MIL.

TBird , pic of stickers similar but not the same .Do your parent in-laws have a hand rail in the bath .My OH also has a chair that fits over the bath. It swivels so that it can be sat on before getting into the bath, when in the bath there is a substantial lever to lock the chair in place .

Mum's were something similar to these:

I'm sure that they will be more improved now than when we got them for Mum. They did tend to get discoloured quite quickly.

TBird some of the stickers don’t require to be cleaned with an acetone kind of substance . It depends what the stickers are made of.  Just had a look at the back of the ones in the pic ,they don’t .

That's great - thank you both. The flowers and dots I'd seen were both white so blend into a white bath quite nicely. There were more reviews for the flowers on Big River (830+) - mostly positive - which made me wonder if the flowers were in some way superior.

Also not sure if small (2" diameter) or large (4" diameter) dots would be better. I've seen the bath treads but not wavy ones like those. I think the wavy ones would be better - fewer slippery areas between the treads.

No - there is no grab rail, or seat, or hoist or anything else. FIL is adamant he won't use any of them. We all (incl MIL) tried to persuade him that a walk-in bath would be a good option. Their bathroom is ready for an update and that, with some strategically placed rails, would solve several problems but he won't hear of it. Very difficult situation.

MIL is too nice. I'm afraid if I was her, I'd have insisted when she first talked about it 2 years ago. Might all be a bit too difficult to organise now unless we can find somewhere for him to go while it's all being fitted.

I used to work for Social Services and one of my roles was OT assessment for exactly this type of thing - but he won't listen.

OH is coming home some time at the weekend so I'm driving up early doors tomorrow and I'll fit in 2 visits on Thurs and Fri afternoons before heading home mid afternoon Friday.

Thanks for all your support and the above info.

EDIT: bottom! thought I posted this a couple of hours ago - forgot to press the button - soz all.

T'Bird, you take care driving tomorrow. The forecast is not good. We'll be thinking about you. Some elderly people can be amazingly stubborn, not realising what a strain they put on others around them.
