Well my RTBC is our holiday has been cancelled no I am not on the wrong thread I shall explain. Since finishing my course at Capel Manor I have volunteered there and have worked a lot in the Japanese garden with one of the senior gardeners. Now my OH is retired too we decided to go to Japan to see the cherry blossom & to see some real Japanese gardens. Most of these trips are very expensive but we were tempted by one advertised in a Sunday paper which involved a cruise. Now despite saying we would never go on a cruise we felt this was basically a coastal voyage down the islands stopping off at all the important places. You may have guessed, but in case you have not seen any news for the last month, the cruise ship with all the corona virus cases has been stuck for over 3 weeks in Quarantine , and we were booked to go on the Diamond Princess in early April. We have been contacted by the cruise company saying they have to cancel as there is no way they can have the ship ready before June. Boy oh boy what a lucky escape, providing we can get all our money back we will try a land based trip next year instead- Hang the extra cost
It has been a good day today. It has been dry, all day. It may have been windy with dreary, depressing grey skies, not a peek of sun but Yeh! it has been dry. There are loads of trees and branches down in the hedges, if only I had a chain saw and trailer, I wouldn't have to buy wood for the fire for years.
I got dragged out shopping today but a red kite circled very low over the supermarket carpark right above us and I bought a really nice (and cheap) houseplant without eyes being overly rolled. The weather even calmed down for an hour or so and I'm sure I could almost feel spring not too far away.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Lucky escape there , @Allotment Boy. Someone my husband works with has gone on a trip of a lifetime, Sydney to Southampton. Unfortunately the first six ports of call were in the far East, mostly ports refusing to let cruise ships dock, so they are rescheduled to do more of Australia, then a long run across the Indian Ocean.
T'other half has been tentatively offered a two week job in Fiji in October. It means transitting through Singapore, (27 hours straight through) and we were going to wrap a holiday around it. Not sure about it at the moment. Cornwall looks inviting.
Men appear to be bigger these days. My Grandpa was known as Big Jim, he was 6ft, although for someone born early 20th Century, I guess it was. He stood out so much he was made Regimental Sergeant Major during WW2. His only son was around 6ft. My brother is 6ft 5, also often known as Big Jim as well. My youngest sister , 5 ft 10, married a six footer. Their eldest is 6ft 10, and would make a good Wooky. His twins, just born, may be premature, but have long legs. Watch this space.
