OH went to Norfolk yesterday. I was well enough to drive back from Bergerac Airport, thank goodness for antibiotics. But the train from Stansted to Norwich was stopped, signalling problem. He had to wait in the cold for an hour at Ely. At least he's there now and the cottage warms up quickly with heating and the wood burner.

A cute bluetit was tapping on my bedroom window this morning. When I went down to the kitchen for breakfast it? or another? was tapping at the kitchen window. The fat balls and sunflower seeds had run out!

I saw bits of that programme on the Spanish flu epidemic after WW1 and very interested to learn it was actually a case of bird flu from the USA that set the ball rolling followed by bad decisions by various authorities on isolation and treatment.  Mind you, in those days they hardly knew viruses existed, let alone how they behaved.  Too tired so recorded the rest and will watch later.

Cosmos has been vetted - 3 lovely holes in his upper hip after being attacked by a neighbouring farm cat.  All shaved now, abscesses cleaned and antibiotic jab given plus homeopathic meds to take for a week.

Make sure you give yourself time to rest and recover @Busy-Lizzie.  Nasty things infections.

Clouding over here now but still bright.  rain expected tomorrow but it seems Dennis is staying north this weekend.   Strap your greenhouses and polytunnels down folks and hide the garden furniture.

    Afternoon all.
Off today. Did just have an hour in the garden but my hands and feet and like blocks of ice now so back in the warm. Need SM as bought a sourdough loaf yesterday (one I hadn’t tried before) and it is not pleasant. I usually like them - fantastic with scrambled eggs etc, but this was super sour and no good at all for toast. I won’t tell OH it was over twice the price of the usual loaf. Disappointing.

Hopa all ok with you folk. What’s the snow situation up north guys?

Sounds to me like a kayak might be a better idea if his stream stays up.

I have only ever had one edible sourdough experience @AuntyRach.  I don't like them very sour so steer clear now.

Am sat in my room in Nantes after a quiet drive up and easy navigation to the hotel and parking.  Have dutifully trotted off to a fabric shop to buy baptiste for a forthcoming workshop on Boutis.   This is part of a cunning plan on my part to soften them up for a future project - quilting on plain fabric as is traditional in the North East of England.  I have a very old one (great grandma's) which is falling apart now.  Mind you, the French will tell me its Provençal but it's not the same.

My school cakes will be making a treacle tart - the Golden Syrup version.  I hope they like it.  They've never had golden syrup.   I've also got a team making Irish soda bread because some bright spark (their teacher) decided they should all try Marmite.  That'll be fun.
