Been raining all day, river is up again.

Back from tea with friends. Had a good chat.

Not ordering any plants here. I'm going to be digging up all the roses in pots and giving most to my daughters, digging up the clematis and planting them on the long border wall between the roses. I will just try to keep the beds reasonably tidy. But I am planning a new bed for the Norfolk cottage, may have mentioned it.

Hello folks 😊 we are home thoroughly relaxed and chilled out after a lovely Ā short break down on the Suffolk coast. Will tell you all about it and post some pics tomorrow ... for now it’s šŸ›ŒĀ

Morning everyone. We’re still under smoke fog, so can’t see where the most fire smoke is coming from. I can’t decide whether that’s better or worse. Not knowing where the active bits are is trying. Hubby has been out the last two days in the fire truck, leading a dozer along old bush tracks that have been left untendered for years, so that if the trucks need to get through, they have a clear track to follow.Ā

He’s having a day off today, so we’ll go to town. The temp is predicted to be about 40. 🤬

    best wishes to everyone.Ā

I’m amazed at how quickly January has gone by. We were thinking about leaving in a few days time and going to Melbourne of somewhere on. The way, but the heat wave has talked me out of it. I’d rather be close to me aircon. Ā We’ll see how things go.Ā

Oh my goodness @Pat E, things aren’t getting any easier for you, are they ā˜¹ļø Ā Keep cool and keep strong. Ā Canberra and its state of emergency are featured on our news this morning.

Mane taming 🦁 for me today, plus starting to do a bit of packing. Our holiday is getting very close now šŸ˜ŽšŸ˜ŽšŸ˜Ž

    Good morning all 😊 ā˜•ļøĀ
Hello @Pat E  😊 it is of course your decision, but I think I’d be looking to move on for the time being ... the fear of being isolated if the fires spread would stop me sleeping at night. I can’t imagine what you and your neighbours are going through ((hugs)).Ā

We had a really lovely stay down in Dunwich. The pub/hotel is only about 100 yards from the beach. Ā Our very comfy room had a view across the marshes with Southwold lighthouse a tiny pinprick of light in the distance

The view from our room - late afternoon sun on the marshes.Ā

Dunwich beach looking South to Minsmere.Ā

Dunwich beach looking north to Walberswick and Southwold.Ā

    One of the village fishermen’s beach-launched boats.Ā

The pub was very good, Adnams beer (and others) and very good food ... despite being tempted by the calves’ liver as I said to @Punkdoc , the pan roasted pheasant breast with confit leg, fondant potato, roasted artichoke and buttery steamed kale on the Specials Board tempted me more šŸ˜‹ We both started with Norfolk Brancaster mussels in cream and local cider, and OH’s main was a fabulous fish pie. His pud was banana cake with banana ice cream, passionfruit curd and caramel, while I had a vanilla panna cotta with segments of orange and pink grapefruit and chunks of honeycomb. Ā The wine list looked good, but we just kept drinking the Adnams bitter šŸ»Ā

After a very good sleep in a comfy bed we woke to the sound of a songthrush singing very close by.Ā

Great breakfasts too with lots of local produce. I must also mention that as it’s prime walking country it’s a dog friendly pub and there were several lovely and very well behaved four footed guests with their owners. Prime local sausages are provided by the kitchen for their doggy guests. šŸ• 😊

We had a really good time and will be retuningĀ

I know Dunwich so well, I've spent a lot of time there; it’s fascinating beauty never pales.Ā

    Hi all.

Sounds lovely, @Dovefromabove. I think I would have changed my mind as well, and gone for the pheasant.

That sounds just the ticket, Dove, I envy you all over there not having to worry about the fires like we do. I’m a bit concerned for our daughter and grandson who live in the south of Canberra. They’ve been door knocked by the army to warn them to evacuate tomorrow if it gets bad. 😔 Ā She’s ready to get the dog and cat into the car.Ā

There is really nowhere close that we can go to except to town.Ā

It really was just the ticket afterĀ  that flippin' lurgy ... Dunwich has an amazing history and in the summer the little village museum is wonderful.Ā  The beach is also the place to find amber if there's been 'a scouring tide' raking through the shingle.Ā  We went down to the beach again in the morning (of course) and watched three magnificent Irish Wolfhounds returning from their morning exercise along the coastal path :smiley:Ā

    Morning all.
Sounds awful, Pat. Surely it must rain soon, when does autumn start? SW France has been almost drowning in rain this winter. Wish we could send it.

Sounds a lovely break @Dovefromabove, think I would have chosen the pheasant too.

Still raining. A housework and washing sort of day.
