No vote here @Lizzie27.  It stops after 15 years abroad but we did always do it by proxy when we could.

We have sunshine today but are expecting a wet week from tomorrow.  My weather forecast site says there is a "depression anomaly" over France and wetsern Europe and it's going to be wet, wet, wet so, if you're vulnerable, move precious stuff upstairs and get the sandbags ready.    Dreadful situation for those affected.

I'm glad you're safe from the fires @Pat E and hope your family and friends are safe too.  Most of all I wish you a serious downpour or 3 to stop it all.

Have fun, those who can.  I'm off to inspect the water and wind damage outside and then play with my wee mosaic panels.

It’s ok @Lizzie27 ... I did all the ironing while listening to the Archers ... none left now.

I’ve got the tv on to watch the wreath-laying at the Cenotaph. The music brings a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes as I think of Pa’s youngest brother who I never knew.
We went with Pa to the local war memorial every year and he placed a poppy cross for him.  As he became old and infirm we made sure he didn’t miss the ceremony if he was well enough to attend, or we would watch the tv programme with him.
I never knew my maternal grandfather either ... he died before I was born ... his health shattered by his time in the trenches in WW1.
We seem incapable of learning from the past. 😢

    Morning all.

No vote for me either, but I know who I would vote for if I could and it's not a man.

Just come back from the Remembrance Day service. OH sang in the choir. Church was full. Last year there were 331 people in church, the Sunday after there were 31. We didn't go to the memorial in the village after church as OH was feeling too achey for the walk. The Police had blocked off the road so we couldn't get any closer in the car.

Sun is shining, more leaf raking to do.

I saw about the Australian fires on the news, also the English flooding. Feel so sorry for them all, must be really frightening.

My paternal grandpa's health was also shattered by the war but he never spoke about it and, as was only about 10 when he died, I never got the chance to ask.   My dad never spoke about his war either and it was a long one because he joined up in September 39 so, as a volunteer rather than being called up, he didn't get demobbed till '47 by which time he was in Palestine with all that mess.

I rather think they should keep politicians away from the Cenotaph as it is their failures, past and present, that have given us the reasons to have a Remembrance Day.

Lovely sunny day here, water levels now falling quickly, which is great, as more rain is forecast.
We have just cleared the mud out of the porch, which was as far as the flooding got.

  • Fingers crossed that the water gets away quickly @punkdoc (although of course that’ll cause problems downstream 🙄). So glad it didn’t get into the house. 😊

Fingers crossed you stay dry @punkdoc.  I should have thought any bushfires in Sydney would coming in from the country round the edges @Chicky.   Have a look at this and check for updates - https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/fires-near-me  I have friends in Manly Heights.
