Thanks @Pat E.  She has been in touch - she is asthmatic, and the air quality is really bad, so like you, she is staying indoors as much as possible.  Hope they manage to keep the fires under control.  Terrifying.

In more mundane news .... never got started on the painting yesterday, but did have a good clear out of the spare room, which has become a general dumping ground for all of us.  So getting closer to being able to wield a paintbrush.

Off to London today to meet with a friend from Uni days.  Only get together about once a year, so much nattering to be done 😀😀😀

    Morning all.

I hope you have a lovely natter with your friend @chicky
I had a, maybe similar, good day yesterday in London with my old school friend, M. She lives in Yorkshire and her OH was going to London for a meeting so she asked me if I would like to spend the day with her. I hadn't seen her for a few years.

We started with the V & A museum, saw the European section, but we really wanted to chat so M said she knew an Italian restaurant near Piccadilly, but she wasn't sure where it was. We took a bus but then I saw the Royal Academy where we went to see the Gardens painting exhibition with friends and I remembered where we went for lunch that day. @Dovefromabove may remember, Matty who used to post here.

So we went there, Zedel, (it was Dove who originally recommended Zedel) a huge French brasserie, very reasonably priced. We had a long chat over a leisurely lunch then went to Covent Garden before going our separate ways, M to meet her OH and me to catch the train back to Diss.

Good morning all ... a bright, beautiful but breezy morning here in Norfolk.

The situation in parts of Australia does look grim ... it must be a bit reassuring for Chicky to have reports from @Pat E, putting the reports we're getting into some sort of context.

Glad you had a good day @Busy-Lizzie ... Zedel has good food and is so reliable ... and eating there always feels like a bit of an occasion without spending too much ... and the staff are great 👍 Hope @chicky has a lovely today 😎
Do give Matty my best wishes if you ‘speak’ to her. 😊

Good morning.  I have been up and out taking OH to golf as I need Sally to take Rasta for her haircut this afternoon.  I've washed her raincoat and sprayed it just in case.  Bit showery and cool today.   Bursts of sunshine earlier tho and the wet foliage and bracken looked stunning as it shimmered and glowed in the low light.

Done a bit of pottering with my mosaic stuff and am now having a coffee before going upstairs to sew.  Fed up with the radio playlist so I'm working my way thru Beethoven's symphonies but the 6th is still my favourite, especially when we're having short stormy downpours like yesterday pm.

Your "retirement" sounds like a lot of fun @Chicky and a good sort is good for the soul.   Your day sounds good too @Busy-Lizzie.   Good to keep up with old friends.

I hope you're still dry @punkdoc and waving, not drowning.  I hope the winds have dropped @Pat E.  They can be very wearing, I find.

Greetings to everyone and hugs where needed.

Gosh, no one here since this morning!

We went to Bury St Edmunds today. I bought jumpers from M & S and Debenhams for OH for Christmas and a gorgeous red lace and satin bra by "Rosie for Autograph" for me. We had lunch in Betty's Tea Room, wonderful hot chocolate made with Belgian chocolate.

Stopped at Sainsbugs on the way home and picked up the travel cot and mattress I'd ordered from Argus for visiting grandchildren and babies.

Been busy!   To-ing and fro-ing for OH's golf and Rasta's haircut and sewing in between plus making a pot of borscht for lunches this week.

  • Looks like we were all busy @Busy-Lizzie  ... I was negotiating a deal with the AA which was better than their competitors 👍
Sounds as if you had a productive day too 😎

    Morning all.
The bushfires are still going. It’s fairly clear that the fire at Turramurra was deliberately lit.🤬🤬.  I hope the brainless idiot who lit it has a terrible life ahead of him/her.  Interesting that many schools were closed that day. At least the huge southerly wind has stopped, but the smoke is still hanging around everywhere.

  • Good morning all and hello to @Pat E 😊 ☕️
I hope they find whoever set that fire ... there’s always the occasional idiot but an exemplary punishment might make one or two think twice.
Our thoughts are with those facing fires in Australia and floods in the UK.

This morning has started sunny and bright ... the big oak at the top of the rise is a beautiful glowing golden bronze ... I don’t recall it looking this good since we came here eight years ago.
