@celcius_kkw I use a wire cage sat around the plant to support my aubergine plants, I only had a single string supporting them last year and last lots of side stems. Mine are grafted plants and neither last year or this have I nipped out the top, they have bushed right out and have lots of fruits forming with 1 taken off each plant (my first of the year) this morning
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience.. mine are in the polytunnel and so far they’re growing well and have become rather huge..! There are already multiple flowers forming on the plants.. my inclination is to simply leave them be and see what happens.. it’s my first year growing..
@celcius_kkw I grew White Casper last year; the aubergines are real tasty and blemishless. I gave only a single cane as support; but remember removing the sideshoots once the fruit started setting. I haven't grown this year as I was away and couldn't sow the seeds in Jan/Feb. Here is a photo from last year: https://forum.gardenersworld.com/discussion/comment/2421199#Comment_2421199

@Eustace Thanks a lot for sharing! Those white Caspers do look so good! I am actually growing Turkish orange too this year! How many fruits did you allow the plant to set before you removed the side shoots? Do they fruit on side shoots or from the main branch? (I should take a closer look next time I’m at the plot..)
as for Turkish orange - given they’re small fruits did you treat them the same in terms of side shoot pinching ? What do they taste like..??
@celcius_kkw With the White Casper, fruits set on the main branch; they start off quite similar to sideshoots, in crooks, where the leaves grow from the branches. So I wait until the sideshoots have leaves rather than flowers, before removing them. I did not limit the number of fruits, as I wanted all I can get out of the plant
Turkish Orange grows in bunches. No pinching of sideshoots in this case as I found even the sideshoots carry fruit. They are quite good, though too cute to eat

Hello everybody, last year , I think on this Forum somebody recommended , to stop Rats 🐀 eating my sweet corn 🌽 I put plastic bottles around them , well I saved some bottles and the cobs are forming not very big but wondered when to put the bottles on ?
@purplerallim The garden is going good, lots of produce coming in Charlotte potatoes, carrots, peas, broad beans, spinach, kale, onions, courgettes have all been good. Just had our 1st tomatoes, sungold, and aubergine. I have 16 swift sweet corn plants going great with 2/3 cbs per plant. Parsnips and leeks look good for winter with lots of winter brassica to plant out.
I plan to extend the veg beds further (will have to avoid Mrs wilderbeast' watchful eye). I've found my gardening mojo harder to keep going this year as I've been working so much, I've been a sad lurker following you all without joining in. Still managing the compost mountain too have made about 3 tons of finished gear and same again cooking at high temps (been raiding the streets compost bins tonight before the lorry tomorrow) all since end of January.

The leeks are doing well but they have some shade
