  • GWRS 's shed is in a pretty little village allotment @Allotment Boy so it needed to be cute too. 😁
  • @GWRS gorgeous shed!!  Can I ask everyone a question? I have a small half plot only in my second year and very much a beginner.  What would be the best/cheapest way of adding nutrients?  I've got 7 beds which aren't huge and I'm not sure whether to get some local manure and spread over the all the beds or get some blood, fish and bone and use only when I'm planting... any thoughts?
  • If you can get manure  then do, feeding the soil rather than the plants.  You may still wish to supplement with bfb for some crops as the nutrients in FYM can vary a lot.

@Dahliadelights , horse manure is good & I spread it on my small beds to over winter and it stops the weeds , however , it is very new , in spring I will either dig it in or scrape it off and put into compost bins . Depends on the crops eg to much manure with carrots can cause them to to grow funny shapes
I do use BFBone or chicken pellets , which I tend to buy if on sale in different shops
Personally I like to mix it up
    Best of luck
  • thanks @gwrs - with the pellets and BFB do you just use those as you plant?

    Generally yes
However , raspberries , strawberries and other fruit bushes ,I’ll give them a spring dusting of BFB
Blueberries 🫐 need ericaceous feed thou

@Dahliadelights , no I live in Lincolnshire and got it from a local firm
  • @GWRS just popped on here and spotted your shed that is an amazing one, looks so good, was that 5by7 foot one?   are you getting shelves, hooks and workbench put up in there

@Dahliadelights I add horse manure which I go collect free from local stables well rotted, still get some nettles growing in it,  also my allotment soil does grow plants quite well, I have planted fruit with blood fish and bone and microrhizo fungi and have used growmore a bit for all veg, root veg would not add the manure cause forking, have done green manure on my veg area in the garden before but does take a bit to cut down and dig in then it needs to rot down before planting in the area

Freezing day with hail, just look after the chickens then we went on a trip to the farm to look around could not feel my toes by the end of it, so hot bottle, the other day added black plastic to the porch area of my shed to stop rain getting in still need to finish building yet - GWRS your way quickest way of getting a shed

  • Glad I got some digging done yesterday as overnight rain put a stop to anything useful today.
