Hello , been to allotment this morning , o/h did most of the work as I’ve got “ gout “ , so need to take it easy

Planted chard , Pak Choi 🥬 , kale , runner beans , dwarf French beans & peas

Pick a bit of asparagus , which will be the last
Parsley had gone to seed , so cut it down , should regrow
Noticed Plum tree covered in aphids will need spraying and it’s summer prune , no fruit

    Strawberry bed looking very good

    And of course watered
Rose arch looking magnificent , must try and take a picture

    Happy gardening everybody 👍

Hello , watered allotment again ,however , o/h picked a large tub of strawberries 🍓 the first this year
I cut the grass around the edge of the plot with shears , will need to do it again with strimmer
    New potatoes look ready

Been to allotment today , lifted Garlic 🧄 & Shallots , not very big

Dug up some first early potatoes 🥔 , very pleased with them and nice clean skins
    Picked some broad beans

A bit of strimming and pruning trees , the burning pile is getting bigger

Then to our surprise it rained , not very heavy or for long

Sadly due to ill health I have had to scale back the allotment plot this season, I did manage to get all of the potatoes planted, peas, broad beans, shallots and climbing beans, the paths have been covered with bark chippings so it only needs weeding around the edges, a third of the plot is still under plastic sheeting as there's no point in planting stuff that I will struggle to look after, I'm hoping to keep on top of it and avoid a non-cultivation order but considering the possibility that after ten years of dedicated work I might have to give allotmenting up and concentrate all my growing efforts at home.

Sometimes people advertise to share a plot. If one goes away, the other keeps on top of watering and weeding and vice versa and share produce.

Thanks I hope that my poor health improves as I am waiting for an operation which when I eventually have it I won't be able to exert myself for several weeks, on the down side the operation may not cure whatever my ailment is as no one has actually confirmed what is causing these bouts of pain but as they have found a puj obstruction on one of my scans that is what I am having corrected. I'm afraid that I'm not the sort of person to share a plot being autistic spectrum disorder I have to do things my own sweet way. I hope you all have a spectacular allotment season it looks like much needed rain is due tomorrow, I'll keep plugging away I won't be done till I'm done.

Sorry to hear of your woes @barry island. As a past chairman of our society can I suggest you contact your committee and let them know your situation.  I  don't mean you have to go into detail, but if you explain you are waiting for an op but expect to return fully it will help.  If a plot gets into a poor state, but we don't know why, the society has to follow the rules regarding cultivation standards. If they know why they can make allowances and may even be able to organise help if you want it.  As you have kept a good plot for a number of years they would rather keep you as a tenant,  I am sure.

Thanks for your suggestion @Allotment Boy the plot is in a pretty good state at the moment no worse than the rest anyway as I am still able to do some light weed pulling, it's just the next two or three months that I worry about in my experience it's those summer Autumn months when the weeds can really take hold, I'll wait to see if I get a non-cultivation notice and then contact the council officer with my excuses I would rather deal with him as I have found the allotment committee less than sympathetic in previous dealings.

Good luck with your health problems. I have just had a totally unexpected week in hospital,, Being taken from the Drs. surgery, by ambulance, straight into hospital, followed by a month of taking it easy. No surgery but I have to "Pull in my horns" and learn to live life at a different pace. I have at some time in the past had a heart attack, totally unknown to myself, the damage is not operable so is being managed with medication. However, lugging bags of compost around, pushing heavy wheelbarrows etc. has to stop. So frustrating! But it is not the end of the world. I have always been over independent so have to learn to ask for help or find alternative ways of getting jobs done.
Why not write to your council officer before being sent a warning letter. They might come up with some helpful suggestions which could avoid your plot getting too run down and needing a warning letter? I am sure they are used to dealing with this type of problem and hopefully will show you some sympathy.
    Good luck.
