Went to plot Sunday , picked a lovely red cabbage and found a cucumber , also the last of the autumn raspberries
Picked the butternut squash as a couple had been attacked by rats or mice , that not happened before
Started the tidy up , pulled up sweet corn , courgettes plants , French beans and tomato plants and as ever a few weeds
The Dalia bed has grown so much this year I have not been able to keep up with dead heading and had flopped over a path so took the hedge trimmers to it which is a first

Good couple of hours at plot yesterday , took up the spent tomatoes 🍅  & cucumbers 🥒 compost and spread on cleared beds for the winter
  • Still harvesting,  did a little bit more digging but the tennis elbow in my left arm has flared up already so having to take it very slowly.

Went up for a lettuce first thing this morning very misty and murky very Autumnal I wonder what the winter will bring, I think that it must be safe to uncover the leeks now as the moth must be finished laying eggs, already harvested some curly kale the whitefly don't seem so bad this year, checked the bags of spuds in storage yesterday no rotters present have put some smallish ones aside to sow next year. I'm not a great fan of winter but it will be nice to scale back on the allotment for a few months.

Me too, I like the rhythm of the seasons , the change from one to the next and the anticipation of spring.

First time to the plot this week harvested all of the remaining tomatoes from the greenhouse so my lovely wife made me pumpkin and tomato soup with home grown chilli's it was delicious but it did have quite a lot of cream in it. Tidied up where the pumpkins and Borlotti beans were growing so maybe that area can be dug over next week.

Got to allotment today , cleared asparagus bed , ferns in compost bin , and mulched the bed
Planted my Japanese winter onions in a bed I had prepared earlier
Harvested some curly kale & beetroot
Took 3 bags of weeds home for garden bin
It started to rain so came home still got Garlic 🧄 & Shallots to plant , getting there

Visited the plot on Monday uncovered and weeded the leeks not much sign of rust and no sign of leek moth. did some more tidying and started digging the top bed the ground was surprisingly fairly weed free and easy to dig although I doubt it will be now after the recent rain. It looks like it will be one visit per week to the plot now instead of the usual three but no matter because I'm well on target to get everything done even allowing for bad weather.
