How's this for being cheeky, a plot holder came on site this week to find a rabbit asleep by his shed, basking in the sun :0

    Hi All,

First time allotment grower here. I waited a year to get the patch. It’s a small plot in the city and less than 10 minutes walk from my house. I was excited to get started when I accepted the plot. And then we went into lockdown. Everything stopped. The allotment closed.

I returned today to an overgrown mess covered in high grass and what looks like an artichoke plant so I did a big sigh and then rolled up the sleeves. I managed to clear a patch and plant some red and white swirl beetroot, coloured beetroot and radishes.

I have courgettes, tomato, pumpkin, various salads, squash, sweet corn, spring onions, kale and spinach plantlets growing in pots that I’ll plant out once I get the plot under control.

The ground was like iron today so I am hoping for some rain.

I’m late to the game and learning/making this up as I go along. I’ll be happy with a small harvest - just one home grown Summer salad would be lovely.

    All the best.

DJF , welcome , it’s handy with the site being so close , is it a big site and do you have water there ?
treat it as a long term project
Going to our plot shortly o/h is going to put leeks in , already got bed ready and I’m going to prepare small beds for outside tomato 🍅 but we have to drive there
    Stay safe

Hello all, I am back again - phone and internet went down on Thursday after they were changing box on pole a right pain they did not tell us about the box change before doing it
Been to plot lot more digging and putting in bed areas and looking after chickens  - so many people out and about now lots up allotment some are up there for hours - hot day today

Hello DJF welcome to the forum great you got an allotment plot and brilliant you look at it to take bit at a time with clearing and you got some plants growing - some times watering the soil before digging for a while can help with digging.  Where abouts are you?

Zommer cheeky rabbit - I need to sow more peas

Tied back a couple of red current stems. Weeded the carrots and spring onions. Watered everything.
In the garden cut back the dead tulip and daffodil leaves. Now had enough. 😓

Full day at plots yesterday, finally planted all outside crops, courgette, toms, late Brassica plugs etc. Still have some greenhouse Toms to put in,  but early crops of rocket & radish need clearing so I can plant the other half up with the rest of the summer crops.
    AB Still learning

Hi TJF welcome to the forum, happy growing.

I've only been able to get to the plot to water this week, sometimes that's a good thing, seedlings and plants in the GH are doing welled and not being overpowered with to much TLC.

A flock of pigeons were disturbed yesterday though, I so them take off as I arrived at the plot, all the brassica's had there leaves missing :( not sure they can be saved, does that mean they won't recover even if I cover the plants with chicken wire, I'm thinking now pigeons ate the kohi rabi and not rabbits:( what should I do, any suggestions are welcome.
