A lot depends on what the seeds are. Some lasts years, e.g.  runner beans, cabbage, some needs to be fresh, parsnips,  French beans for example.  Unfortunately there is no way of guessing,  say from how big the seeds are etc. You just need to look it up. If I find the website again I will post a link.

Funnily enough the other week I sowed a tray of marigolds one half with seeds collected two years ago from garden plants and the other half with seeds from a packet use by dated 2018, the two year old seeds from the flowers germinated the old packet seeds didn't, I did consider Monty's advice about putting seeds into the freezer to try to shock them into germinating but decided not to bother.

I've kept just in date seed packets this year having sorted out the seed box and bought lots of new seeds. I'm gettig a good getmination rate too.

I do have some  bean/pea seeds though and these are swaps, and don't really know how they have been stored  hence the Q about viability...and floating seeds

Another thing to watch for is some packs say "packed in the year ending". That doesn't indicate how fresh the seeds were when they were packed.

Back to plots yesterday after a week away.  Very Very dry, put the late spuds in, but the earlie aren't even showing yet. May have to give in and water them 😠
On the upside,  picked Asparagus and a few Broad beans.

I have some good sized cucumbers on the plants already.

They have been in the greenhouse just over a week and are romping away. The taller at the back are Pasandra and the shorter ones Beth Alpha
The hubby did a good job getting the greenhouse set up for me, not his usual job, but no lifting/bending for me after an op.

Had 2 weeks holiday in Tenby
I can’t believe how much things have grown in greenhouse , garden & allotment
looks like we are going to be very busy for next few weeks
A few things have not survived in the g/h

At the allotment , it wasn’t weed free but stunned at how much has suddenly appeared !
Went to plot on Monday and picked rhubarb and asparagus
Curly kale finally gone to flower , has been a great success
Planted a bed of tomatoes 🍅
Off to garden centre tomorrow for compost and grow bags for g/h

    Purplerallim, cues are looking good.

I'm not gonna be able to get to the plot this weekend, shudder to think how big the  weeds will be.
