Howdy stranger! It can take a long time. I was told when I first contacted that there was a waiting list for the allotments so prepared myself for a long wait. Received an offer of a plot a month later. Didn’t like that one so they gave me another. Turned out they actually had several vacant plots!

Its worth getting your name down anyway!

Yeah I’ve put my name down for a couple and I do suspect the lockdown has resulted in a surge of demand.. I guess I’ll just have to wait for now.. thing is I may well be moving to a house in a couple of years’ time so I may not need an allotment anymore by then. @Mr. Vine Eye did they tell you how long the wait was going to be when you signed up? One of the allotments I put my name down for somehow wouldn’t tell me how many people they’ve got on their list..

I didn’t actually ask and no they didn’t give me a number. They just said that there “is currently a waiting list”.

Having the plot has been a godsend at the moment! Even if it is a LOT of very hard work getting it back into shape after 3 years of neglect by previous absentee tenants.

I don’t actually post much on here because every update would just be - did more digging today

@Mr. Vine Eye sounds like it’s keeping you busy. I was slightly deterred by the thought of potentially needing to clear out a neglected plot but with the support of my partner we decided we could do it.. the job now is to find a plot. I will keep looking and possibly look further afield as well.

@GWRS Thank you, I’ve looked up the national Allotment Association and there’s quite a lot of resources in there. It seems there’s a shortage of allotments in Liverpool but I just discovered that an email I sent to a supposed large allotment was never sent anyway.. and there I thought they were ignoring me. I hope I have better luck this time.

I'm hoping we don't get a late frost here GWRS, it can be a gamble though, so sorry you had frost.

Went to the plot yesterday and prepped a bed for squash and courgettes, none of the pumpkins germinated, I do have some new seeds so will sow them. Planted out mini pop, potted up sunflowers and composted some seedling/trays of seeds which were not showing any signs of life.

Hi, Celsius. We have 80 plots with possibly 10 to 15 plot holders giving up each year for various reasons.  When I first applied I put my name down for all the allotment sites in the area, there are about 6 or 7 of varying sizes, I was surprised only to wait a few months.

I accepted the first one offered which was really over grown but was then offered one of the biggest plots on site  as I'd expressed an interest in growing fruit and the plot was too small.

I 've recently moved house and the one nearest has a waiting list of 10 yrs, how they worked that out I really don't know.

Went to plot did some digging levelling for 3 large 60cm paving slabs moved those this evening with help as heavy more level one way than other looks ok moved the storage box ontop for chicken stuff

@celcius_kkw welcome to allotment gardening thread - I went on a waiting list that said 18 months after a few months checked again it has gone down to 3 months - must of cleared some plots so when I checked in Feb 2015 I was 3rd on list not sure where I was to start with took about 7 - 8 months in end,  got a letter end of March - was not sure about plot to start with so they let me wait until another came up, incase as you stay first on list until you pick a plot took a while but went with first plot after looking at second plot as first one wider than the second and garden at home long and thin my little veg garden area is in the part shaded area and some things don't grow.  Depends on when people pay rent too as some people give up near that time I pay in November so after a few months plots come up
So 1st of May 2015 was my 1st day after signing up to the weed bramble jungle but I do like a challenge

Not sure the council are offering plots at min as they don't want new people on site -but will be a waiting list -  I think once lock down is eased they would let people in more - so many plots at min are getting weedy and over grown cause people isolating
