It seems covid is wreaking havoc with lots of plans again. I have always said rotavators speed things up but they are still hard work. I had hand dug in the winter but the rain and wind, had caused the surface to crust over.
Got to the plots yesterday and this morning. Sowed more Broad beans , dug some perennial weeds from under the Apple trees and emptied one of the compost bins to use as mulch under the trees. Making progress but slowly, the ground is dry on top but very sticky underneath.
Went to the plot on Monday and Tuesday morning's managed to get all my seed potatoes in the ground before the drizzle got too bad on Tuesday, also moved the ground cover from the potato bed to the bottom of the plot, the weather doesn't look too good for the next few days but hoping to get the shallot's that have been growing in pots in the greenhouse planted on Monday.
Now back of holiday work starting at allotment I was given 4 large bags of pumas so took it up there on Sunday , never used it before so will be interesting to see how it goes Curly kale starting to go to seed so cut flowers off them Purple Broccoli still producing , some definitely finished
Monday , planted a bed of first early potatoes 🥔 , still got some left so prepared another bed ready O/H did loads of seeds in g/h Next week we are getting to feral kittens 🐈⬛ to keep the rat 🐀 population under control, well that the theory Lawn cutting today
I did grass cutting on Sunday, today planted 2rows of first early spuds. It's still very sticky about 1/2 a spade depth down, hard work hope the weather is kind in 2-3 weeks when they should be showing above ground.
I managed an afternoon at the plots too. Planted out some french shallots that I started off in small pots. I also pruned, the greengage, felt a bit guilty doing it as I have cut some of the flowers off, but it had got far too tall. If I had left it and the flowers set fruit it would have been way out of reach, even from my high platform. I did some hoeing round the strawberries, as the soil round them had become very compacted.
