Same here with autumn onions, not doing a lot. Autumn garlic doing a lot better though. Spring planted shallots doing well too.
Composted some seedlings - turnip, swede and a tray of lettuce they were not growing well and some had stopped growing or were beginning to die. I've been hardening stuff off too which has made room in the GH to pot up toms, courgettes, mini pop and squash.
I had trouble watering this evening, the hose wouldn't stay on the tap and the water pressure seemed a lot higher than usual.
well done Gemma, the hard work will have been worth it though when you eat your first bowl of strawberries with ice scream and cream
GWRS not seen last GW from Friday evening still catching up as at allotment then with chickens in the evening, few places selling seeds even supermarkets asda online
Did some strimming Yesterday evening first time since arm opp beginning of October strimmer battery lasted 20 mins less than normal, bit more today on plot morning then off plot path evening - some left to do but battery does not last long and arm really hurts and going to be really wet day Tuesday so rest arm from that
Some good going there @GemmaJF and son lots of graft
Pain @Zoomer44 when tap does that, my strawberry plants have flowers starting so pretty
@Zoomer44 is it a plastic hose fitting that is popping off? I had this trouble and switched to brass clip on fittings, not known one to pop off yet.
Woken up to welcome rain, so mostly a day off, need to build an extension to the propagator sweetcorn are reaching the top. Not having a greenhouse I keep things in there as long as I can before repotting and hardening.
Still dreaming of Strawberries and ice cream, @Gardengirl.. ours which are still in their pots waiting for the new bed have the first flowers too, they are so lovely.
Only problem today is I'm nursing a lot of midge bites from yesterday, not sure why I got eaten alive yesterday and my son Harvey, wasn't bitten once while we worked side by side!
GWRS I know Beechgrove has been on 2 times not caught up with yet, liked it last few years
Got very wet at allotment this morning sorting out chickens has rained most of night last night and most of day, pricked out seedlings in walk in greenhouse - cabbage, cosmos, tomatoes and turnips - bit too many turnips
Yes, Gemma it's a plastic attachment, the pressure was ok today but I'll try a brass one if it happens again. A lot cooler today and raining on and off, day so I just went to the plot to water in the GH.
Bought 'Kitchen garden' for the free seeds, ten packets and it was a good selection too, usually the packets you can't see are one's you wouldn't necessarily buy but will try all these.
Another cool day and lots of rain so haven't been to the plot but went through my seed box sorting through which need to be sown this year, some had last years date on.
Gardengirl the free seeds were bulb fennel (try this every year and it always bolts), leaf beet, spinach, turnip(snowball), kohl Rabi, radish(always good to fill gaps), lettuce, 2 x salad leaf(different varieties) and endive(haven't grown this before).
Still raining off and on here, so an update on the propagator.
3 weeks on, things are now getting crowded, will start potting on and hardening off next week.
I think moving the propagator to the garage has been a success, I usually struggle in the potting shed with things getting far too hot, but everything looks lush and healthy this year.
Definitely decided I must get a lean to greenhouse. Would be a great help if I could move things out of the propagator sooner and get another batch going in there.
