Good morning , o/h went to allotment yesterday morning and picked strawberries 🍓 & Rasberrys for jam In the afternoon I went up and watered , put some weed killer on bark chipping paths and picked a tub of broad beans One of our water butts is leaking , fortunately o/h noticed some free from a house in next village so going to pick one up this morning Hope everybody is keeping well , good to have nice weather back
Planted more runner beans yesterday, I had them in root trainers, but I had to dig the area before I could get the canes in, so ended up very hot & bothered, too hot to go today will go to water greenhouse tonight. I'll give a vote to salad bowl and mange tout peas so far this year. My blackberry was in full flower in May the fruit is just beginning to turn colour, no doubt I will be picking them within another week. What am I going to have in September when they should be ready?
Just been in the greenhouse 33.5°C ! It is in the shade till 12pm , and at that time was 21°C its had the doors and windows open day and night for the last two days, but with temperatures like this no hope of keeping them down in there. It is between two sheds too, so goodness knows how hot it would get in full sun. The only thing seeming to like the heat are the strawberries.
Getting jealous everyone is keeping busy when all I have left is hoeing and harvesting. Perhaps be time to turn the compost again! Think I really need some more space.
Just started munching on the third row of radish this year, got some lovely fat crunchy juicy ones that are really, well radishy, so really chuffed about that as I never get bored of them.
Tried my first salad onion of the year, they still need a bit longer but it was nice to get a taste of one.
Courgettes have started, spotted one the other day that was about ready, thought the next ones would be a week or so, but no, they are growing like crazy so two or three to harvest each day now. Have to think of a nice meal to use them up in.
Bit odd as the courgettes were all from one packet, but most of the plants are producing plain green courgette like fruit, while two are producing stripey Marrow looking fruit. Think I might let the ones that want to be marrows get on with it as we are going to be getting enough courgettes from the other plants.
Hello , picked up water butt yesterday and fitted this morning , ready for rain Will cut the old one up and put in bin eventually O/H picked some more strawberries , Rasberrys ,so many gave some to neighbours , first lot black currants & courgettes I’m going back up tomorrow to do a couple of jobs before storm forecast to hit us in afternoon g/h so hot , Have a tray of water and also watering path to cool it down , had to cut tops as they had reach the roof
Or use the old water butt to start off a vermiculture! Been thinking about how to utilize one because of the way they have a tap built in. The available wormeries are really expensive and not great in my experience. With a clever conversion of a water butt, one could have worm tea on tap and all that lovely sticky worm compost.
