I've been watering heavily every day for a five or six days now but after yesterdays 40 degrees the runner beans and peas looked just a bit jaded this morning, tomatoes in the greenhouse look stressed but everything else looked ok and I expect everything to survive, the sweetcorn and pumpkin, courgettes and cucumbers seemed to have loved the heat though but then again they have been watered well daily. Thinned the apples on the two trees this morning after inspecting them there were very few rotten ones and not much sign of bitter pit but I obviously removed all those which were under par, this is the second thinning that they have had and as there is a bumper crop I removed any that were touching or small, fingers crossed for a good harvest.
Finally a cooler day, and a proper session at the plots. Spent nearly 2 hours strimming and mowing, in spite of the heat the grass is still growing. I planted some more climbing beans both runners and French, taking a chance on a late crop. The current ones are cropping well, but as with other things I fear they may stop suddenly with this erratic weather. Then the usual watering and picking crops. Still need to sow more rocket, raddish and lettuce, etc, now the heat has subsided they may germinate properly, fingers crossed 🤞. WE NEED RAIN.
Hello , just dug up a bed of main crop potatoes 🥔 , tops had all died , another bed tomorrow to dig up , Infact first earliers where bigger . The soil was bone dry The cabbages look good , wonder if the netting has been giving them some shade
I lifted the remainder of the first early spuds (Foremost), up to now I have just been digging them as we needed. When I do this I usually dig a wide area but anywhere not in the row was like concrete. Some are surprisingly large, but having to dig "in the row" means I have damaged many more than usual.
Hello , as ever this weather had produced some interesting results Runner beans have grown well but at the weekend took 1 bean off them and French beans 2 Courgettes , have now stopped producing , probably exhausted Lots of rain last night , even some of the grass is looking green
After a week away, I am overwhelmed, with produce. In spite of telling my plot neighbour to pick while I was away (they watered for me), we are swamped . As I said on harvest thread, the picture shows a fraction of what's to come in the next couple of weeks. The crate has windfall Apples and Pears, twice as many more still on the ground either chewed or part rotten!

The basil is holding its own , what’s surprised me is how well the marigolds are doing
