Gardengirl-after looking on line roasting seems most popular but there was also a soup recipe which looked promising haven't actually done anything with them yet, I need some more ingredients.

Still quite blustery here, so had to be flexible, instead of more direct sown seeds which would have ended up in the neighbour's garden, we got in the first onion sets (Red Ray). Couple of weeks late really, but taken a lot of work this year to get beds prepared even with help from my son. Clay here means we get a spring window only autumn/winter prep is not really a thing. Still, not far off schedule, hopefully first carrots and radish in before the end of the week if the winds drop.

Added spring onions to the bed today. Under planted the cherry tree with lettuce and then put the fruit cage up. Potted on some toms and a few other flowers.

How do you control pea/bean weevil. They have nibbled at the broad beans as well as new pea seedlings, I thought it was flea beetles but not so sure now :(

I'd planned to plant a lot of beans and peas this year, on account I've lots of seeds, good use of growing space as they grow upwards and I've lots of soup recipes, any suggestions would be most welcome.

@Zoomer44 hope this helps https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=800 - not sure there is much you can do just make sure plants are stong then should still be ok

Lot of weeding in areas done today and planning bit more cark park moving stone - except someone has taken some of my pile (good half) that I moved in place to lay out,  that the council delivered for the car park area not for their plot
Blossom on apple trees looks so good this time of year

@GemmaJF was a bit windy would of been interesting where the seeds would of come out

Been busy today with the beds in the veg plot again. Had a rethink, decided new strawberry bed is going in the wildlife garden, which led to a brain wave. An old flower border disappeared and I now have an additional 5ft by 20ft bed added to the veg plot. Perfect place for Pumpkins and Marrows. Have been struggling to figure out where they would go for a while now. It all feels very dig for victory, but it's actually been good to prioritize food production this year, self-sufficiency was always close to my heart. Even if we do not end up with shortages, it will be one less thing to worry about right now.

Gardengirl - thanks for the link, I checked it out, weevil don't appear to do as much damage as I thought, just nibble the leaves when seedlings which is reassuring.

The bed of foxgloves will look fabulous GWRS once in flower and with so many planted. I'm growing gladioli for a friends wedding in August, the colour theme was blue and white and gladioli are favourites, they start to flower around August but if social distancing is going to continue looks unlike they will be getting married.

So warm here today made it an easy day of sowing, first carrots with radish between rows, a couple of rows of Webbs Wonderfuls, noted the salad bowl lettuce that went in last week is beginning to show. Then leeks and Brussels into nursery beds, couple of rows of spring onions gone in too.

Think my son is beginning to like gardening. He was reluctant before so only got roped in when really needed (so was always heavy work).

Now he's had the time due to lock-down to do some of the less strenuous tasks, for the first time ever today he said he could get into gardening in the future. :)
