Just back from plots. Various damage sustained for some people, greenhouse glass blown out, 1 small shed wrecked neighbour has lost a plum tree. I am OK a few bits blown about but all retrieved except one perspex panel out of cold frame. Picked last of sprouts and some more PSB.
I also have a bike shed on the plot with stand alone metal shelving. It's been excellent for storing pots, trays and stuff but is sadly looking very tired now. I'l need to replace it this yr
Picked my 1st kale of the year, grown in my greenhouse with some cabbages they have suddenly burst into life.
Dug the last of my parsnips yesterday, an entire row I'd that had gone missing under fresh compost. They suddenly threw up new leaves so I've had them out.
Sowed some spring onions, I have cabbages, 2 types of kale, radish, early peas, broad beans, all growing in trays and coming along nicely.
The beds are warming well under the polycarbonate and double glazed units approximately 6°c difference to the uncovered area. Hopefully the sun will shine some more to get them ready for early planting.
That's the way to do it! I've got broad beans in cardboard tubes, peas in lengths of guttering, chillis and onions in a heated propagator and spuds laid out chitting, the potato bed on the plot is under sheets warming up ready for next months sowing.
Hi, anyone on a plot near the coast east Devon? We are looking forward to getting our potatoes in soon. Has anyone done that yet? Can’t wait for first earlies Casablanca. Valerie
Just pricked out onions Bedfordshire Champion and Scotch Bonnet chilli's from my heated propagator under grow lamps sown on February 1st, the chilli's have gone back into the propagator but the onions will stay on the greenhouse bench now that the daylight is drawing out. This is better than last years attempt because I forgot to sow the onion seed until the middle of March and then using out of date seed didn't get any germination, that added another two weeks lateness to the sowing, needless to say last years onion crop was disappointing.
Hello went to allotment , ended up replacing 4 fence posts and taking down some plastic net/fencing , which the wind had ripped so many times not worth trying to repair it with cable ties O/H burnt the prunings Need to buy 4 more fence posts I was hoping to do a new strawberry 🍓 bed , that for another day Had to take cloche off broad beans
Spent best part of the day at the allotment. Got loads done, weeded and prepped two long beds. I'm going to plant all my dahlias in one spot, to stagger flowering can they be given the Chelsea chop in May?
