We went to Margate for a weekend last year and liked it very much - a very big clean beach and interesting architecture. First time we'd been to that part of Kent.

Broadstairs is even smaller, very safe gentle sloping bay, some interesting rock pools at low tide, not a lot else but ideal for young families. Its one of those places that has not changed much because the road in only goes there & nowhere else (bit like Lynton in N Devon in that respect).
However on the main road in you drive past Thanet Earth- several miles of greenhouses where many of the British grown tomatoes & salad crops in supermarkets come from. Not open to public sadly, save for occasional special open days, my Sister & BIL have been its all very eco friendly, runs on recovered heat & power from local power plant, the CO2 is pumped into the crops to boost growth.

I think there should be more help for the agri industry to help develop that type of growing.  The dutch had plenty of support , and took over the tomato business, whereas when I was young, Lincolnshire had miles of greenhouses producing tomatoes, now sadly disused because they couldn't compete with subsidised crops from the continent. It must surely be better to grow our food here, rather than trucking it thousands of miles.

Morning all 😀. Nearly the weekend - yay 🥳🥳🥳

@Busy-Lizzie I’m having the same problem with poor seedlings this year - can’t cope with the hot days and cold nights unless you are constantly on hand to be able to move them round (which I am not 🙄) For the first time ever I might have to resort to buying tomato plants grown at the GC 🍅🍅🍅

    Hi all
    Still glorious up here.
Found a man in the pub, as you do, who is going to take us on a boat trip to the little islands on Loch Maree, hope to see lots of wild life.
Keep your pecker up @Lily Pilly

    Good morning all 😊 ☕️

Have a wonderful day @punkdoc ... I have wonderful memories of a similar boat trip at Dunvegan on Skye ... it was amazing ... the wildlife took no notice of the boat so we were able to get very close.

Weve been doing it here for years @Obelixx ... but things in Norfolk have changed just recently.  https://www.edp24.co.uk/business/wissington-sugar-plant-to-swap-tomatoes-for-cannabis-family-crop-to-treat-epilepsy-1-4748909

@chicky 🙄 on most days we’re bringing seedlings indoors before 4pm as temperatures are dropping so quickly ... mind you, temps haven’t been as high here as in the rest of the country.

Morning folks, afties Pat if you're there. Hope you're both a bit better.
Another dry day here too, but the last for a while, I think. Made the effort to get up a hill yesterday afternoon after the physio session, which was ok.
doc - Loch Maree is unique in that it contains islands which have their own loch/lochans. That's your interesting [or not!] factoid for today.  :D
Enjoy the divers and the ancient pines too.  :)
    Take it easy today, LP.
I'd agree with you fidget. Surely it can't be beyond the capabilities of this country to think ahead, and address food production properly and responsibly. Reutilising these sorts of areas and providing jobs too. Oh -  but wait a moment...it's politicians we're talking about..... :/
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

    Morning all. Raining here.

    Have fun, punkdoc.

I can't bring seedlings in, too many and couldn't ask the housesitter. Daughter 2's OH and their NDN planted their tomatoes in early May. NDN has lost all his to the frost and SIL has lost half his. I had a look around my garden and the dahlias left in the ground have all got blackened tips.

I took my car to the car wash on Wednesday, it was covered with pollen, even though it had been in the garage. But the garage doesn't have doors. The table in the veranda is covered with pollen too. Probably the lime tree. My eyes have been sore and itchy since we came home.

I will be in front of the laptop a lot today. Church stuff to do, I'm doing prayers on Sunday and I'm hosting a strawberry cream tea, with sandwiches and cakes on 5th June. Also, having seen daughter's photo albums ordered on line I would like to do a couple as well. She said it's quite time consuming, but the albums are lovely.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
