    Looks like Golden Celebration is going to be second to bloom for me. We have had some very strong winds which has damaged some plants and everything is covered is Saharan dust!

    Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.

    The race is on for the first bloom! Pink climber I don't know the name of, Arthur Bell ,climber or shrub, or whitish one with a lovely smell and a lady's name.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

    When we moved into our first house we inherited  a white climbing rose from the previous owner who said it was three then. When we left 33 years later it was still going strong. I loved that rose it was white with a hint of pink in the bud had the most beautiful scent especially in the evening and flowered from June till December.  Went past the house at Christmas and it is still there, meaning it will be 40 next year, I wonder what its name is as it would be lovely to grow one here, but that old a variety is unlikely to be on the go now dont you think?

    ..congratulations !... and you've picked up all the detail in your photo...

    @purplerallim
    ..No, roses are around much longer than that... I have one that was in gardens during the 16th Century...   at a guess it sounds like Mme Alfred Carriere.. but obviously would need photos to have a better idea...  the most popular white climber used to be Iceberg but it isn't well scented..

    Roses do go out of commerce though all the time.. for various reasons.. sometimes it's the name... and I do wish they wouldn't name roses after people still alive.. as was the case with a nice little floribunda called 'Jimmy Saville'...  sunk without trace.. unless it's been resurrected under another name...

    Never thought about peoples names putting people off buying a rose, but you are right @Marlorena that name would put me off. Not possible to take photo now, (unless I sneak round in the dead of night, that might get me in trouble🤔) but would lt be better to go for a newer variety as I must admit it was susceptible to black spot never to a big degree and would insist on growing at the top ( the main reason it was cut back by four/six foot every two years) And another question, I hadn't noticed that roses smell differently not having had any but that one before so do I need to go around sniffing roses to find the right scent? 😮🤔😂

    Don't forget to take a pic of Tess in full flower, please. It's one I've been thinking of...
