Thanks, @Marlorena, yes I have finally accepted that DA’s don’t do well here, hence I am going to be removing most of them. I fell in love with Austins, but it took a while to acknowledge that our relationship was never going to work! I have searched for ‘roses for florida’ a few times, thinking along the same lines as you, and came up a with a couple I liked, but will check out your link too as that one is new to me.

First flower opening on Minerva, yesterday and today. This is such a beautiful and fragrant rose. One of my new roses which I've been really looking forward to.
You certainly need sunglasses for your Oranges and Lemons, @Marlorena! it’s pretty funky. How is your other little purple rose getting on (Midnight Blue?) are the blooms still turning brown?

..yes @Nollie.. it is a bit way out... I didn't buy it, it was gifted to me... but I don't mind a quirky one... you have an oranges and lemons border, perhaps you'd like one?...
Midnight Blue still turns brown... I don't think it's a keeper for me at this stage but I might try it in a shadier spot...
..this pretty little rose is sold all over the world as ''Iréne Watts''... the name is incorrect, really 'Pink Gruss an Aachen' but names sell, and German names are problematic in the English speaking world... the original old Irene Watts 19th C French rose may be extinct... this is a 1929 floribunda sport from the earlier blush white 'Gruss an Aachen'..
...this rose is the one the late David Austin was trying to replicate in his English Roses, which is why so many look like a variation on this... he used to include it in his English Roses.. it's in some of his books... even though it was German bred..
..he always said this rose epitomised the English Rose look and what he was trying to achieve..
Peter Beales Roses sells it under both names... I have grown both, and the ''Irene Watts'' clone I found to be the better of the two..
..this very rare rose is ''Odee's Pink''.. found in a Texas garden of the Odee family... it is thought that it may be the original lost French rose ''Iréne Watts'...
...you can see some similarities going on there... and how roses get confused in commerce, intentionally or accidentally..
...apologies for the history lesson... I know it can be tedious..
No, please don’t stop the history @Marlorena, it’s really interesting. Well Oranges and Lemons is certainly very name appropriate for my border. I not really fond of bi-coloured plants, but I rather like that one...
