Raked up the Katsura tree leaves. They smell like apples. We put some into pumpkin hallowe'en bags for the front of the house, and some in the center pathway as a cushion under the slide. Plenty more to fall yet. Will be able to swim in them soon!
Hacked down Rudbeckia, and annuals nipped by frost. Used them to mulch around the flower bed.
Tucked as much into the garden shed as possible. Spread out the chimnea ashes onto the garden, and put some sage trimmings in for the next fire.
Spent most of the afternoon weeding, deadheading (mostly buddleia, in hopes I will have fewer seedlings to pull out next year) and cutting back the Anthemis punctata, aka Sicilian chamomile, which edges the front path. Then I tried to make apple batter like my mum used to make when I was little. It turned out nothing like, but nonetheless we ate it with enjoyment.
Only a quick dash to plots to pick some toms, cabbage & beetroot. Brought some more spuds from shed store, just as well I went through all the sacks had to chuck out some rotting ones. I don't think they will last much beyond Christmas as lots of slug damage & wastage this year.
I have limes a plenty this year @GWRS , it really enjoyed its holiday outside this summer and as soon as it came inside it had another flush of flowers so will have limes at christmas too. 😁
Purplerallim , can’t think of anything nicer than your own limes at Christmas , I’d use them for cocktails 🍸 We had another long day at allotment , another rose arch built to replace damaged one , as ever some tidying up , so much rubbish , to wet to burn so will need to got to tip in the week
