Yes, finally! I spent a few hours at a local plant sale buying more plants that I do not need. Since I required bed space to over-winter them (all small seedlings) I went at my neglected hillside garden with as much gusto as I could muster. I cut back perennials, weeded, pulled onions and shallots, ripped out the sad tomato plants, topped up half my veg beds with new soil/compost mix, pulled invasive weeds and vines, finally planted two hostas that have been confined to pots since 2018, moved some echinacea and liatris to the back "meadow", and started planting perennials in front of the fence to my hillside garden. I had to stop a few times because the butterfly bushes are in full bloom and there had to have been thirty monarch butterflies or more fluttering around it, it was just spectacular to watch.

Well, let me preface this with the usual long time no see!
It’s seems like months since I’ve been able to get in the garden 😟 between work, travel, bad weather and family weddings there’s just been no time. But yesterday, finally, I ventured back out. I was mostly pulling up all the stuff that had gone wild like fennel plants that had sprung up all over the place and all the overgrown veg.
Brought in some of the Crystal Lemon cucumbers which thoroughly confused all the family who expect cucumber to be long and green 😊
Finally I pulled up loads of the Nigella which had died back ages ago, throwing what seemed like a billion seeds all around the garden in the process. I expect I’ll get some more next year!
No, it's far too hot, 32.3c on the forecaster! I need to dig up a rose to take to my sister before the weekend but waiting hopefully for the temps to drop.

I grow Lemon Cucumbers and I swear they make the best cucumber water! I love handing them to people and they look at it like it's an abomination, and they always ask two questions - how do I eat it? and does it taste like lemon?

No gardening for a week. Too hot. Picked a load of tomatoes, watered and fed them. I think I am going to take a hammer to the seed head of the Verbascum plant which self-seeded itself. They are like iron and haven't been able to break the seed capsules open to see if there are any seeds.
Filled three sacks of weeds/grass/cut back, and that was after the full green bin was emptied today. So took it to the dump, leaving the bin empty for the next round of cutting back. It won't be long before the outside tomatoes are finished, as the outside cucumbers are done.
I am sulking because I'd wanted to plant my crocus bulbs today, but heavy rain is forecast all day., and it's too wet out. Hopefully I might be able to do it tomorrow 🙏
We did manage to jet wash the patio over the weekend, and the pathway to the shed has been put down, so it should be a bit less muddy this winter and the grass won't get so damaged.
Slowly building a wildlife garden, in a new build in East Yorkshire.
I made some more passata. Am going to make some tomato and chilli chutney. My tomato crop is beginning to reduce. It will be my apples next, not ripe yet.
